Her name is Ashley,
she's a dancer too,
practicing new steps,
she smiles at you.
It melts my heart,
to see her grin,
she takes a fall,
while she spins.
She gets right up,
tries once more,
another big spin,
she's on the floor.
Ashley tells me,
I'll get it right,
I wont fall down,
on opening night.
The big day arrives,
her dress is all blue,
two pony tails,
blue ribbons too.
It's her turn now,
she gives me a frown,
she tells Grandma,
I won't fall down.
She steps on stage,
there isn't a sound,
The music starts,
she spins all around.
She did her best,
she did not fall,
only six years old,
she felt ten feet tall.
Practice makes perfect,
in all you do,
anything worth while,
is not easy to do.

That is really nice. I loved the rhyme scheme, and the topic. Great write, and good luck!

That is so cute! All of my sisters have been or are in dance, and I have spent many Friday nights at recitals, just praying they don't fall. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but they always walk away feeling good about themselves. There's something about a little girl accomplishing something after so many tries that really gets to you. I think you did a wonderful job of writting this. The imagery was excellent, along with the adorable story you told. I think a little work could be done- making the rhymes less forced, ease into the story more- but all in all I really enjoyed this! Thank you so much for entering it!

AWW wow i got shivers when reading this. It was simply beautful. There's nothing more special than a little girl that will try and try until she succeeds. I really liked the last stanza, it is very true practise does make perfect. This was a lovely poem. I would love to read the poems about the rest of your grandchildren. Well done, very good write.
