Of GOD and man - A sonnet

Missing image
Of  GOD and Man.

This world is blest with many a wondrous thing;
sights, sounds and scents, both natural and man-made.
See, hear a waterfall, cascading, bring
dank calm with birdsong in some woodland glade.

Both man and God made many things to last.
Great buildings, bridges, churches, castles grand,
oceans or deserts, mountains, valleys cast
with floral carpet or proud forest stand.

Clouds, white in sunshine, black in raging storm;
bright coloured fishes, leviathans of deep;
fleet birds on wing or beasts of beauteous form;
Young of all creatures still in mothers’ keep.

We marvel at works of man and God alone
and yet how few of His Great Ways are known

Hugh Wyles. July 6th. 2004.

Author notes

    An excellent, image-rich, sonnet. It reads as well aloud as it does on the page.
    But the crowning glory has to be the final lines - written as a statement but reviving the puzzle of "Why?"
    Fine work,

    a very beautiful sonnet dear Hugh, not that I can understand them, but you are so good at them it has to be perfect. We never do stop to see the beauty he creates, perhaps we should.
    love you babe. Sally

    A beauty, Hugh.... and so like you to write of Gods creativity and mysteries.
    It really is a lovely piece, makes me stop and think, to marvel at all HE's spread before us.
    love and

    I think that we see how great He is on the high mountains, immense oceans and deserts, variation of fauna and flora. So many things that the man try to copy but never will make in such perfection as He did.
    Excellent sonnet Hugh!
    Kisses and love,
    Mari

    This write is supremely you. Drawing the parallels of man and God's creations, yet still eluding to the mysteries of life.

    I like how you have smoothed the edges of this to make it flow as it does, but I wonder if perhaps the scales aren't tipped in God's favor with all the natural beauties you describe.

    Thanks Hugh for this gentle sonnet that serves to remind us of all the beauty that is still in the world despite the efforts of some of mankind to destroy it. Well done

    It is amazing how man tries and tries to emulate the works of God, but endlessly falls short. It is the simplicity of God's design that makes it all so exquisite. Al the glory is his, but he does not boast or brag of it. He put it all here for our pleasure. this is a wonderful sonnet with a message many of us should pay closer attention to.
    you ake this look so effortless.. I can ony give one applaud, but would give more gladly.

    Your forever Gen...
