My husband Joe

Off the top of my head… I’ll have to think about that.  ROFLOL  No really here it goes.

Um… just a sec.

I’m trying really I am.

We just got back from the doctor, so I’m kind of stressed.  Again.

OK here we go.....

My husband Joe has doctors

So many he must see

For everything from back pain;

to infertility.

He’s had nine operations

But he still needs even more

A new hip cause the old ones bad

And really, really sore.

A hernia we just found out

Right down by the thigh

And maybe one to find some sperm

“no really it’s no lie.”

We’re waiting now because you see

His back was out of wack

And the first doctor picked to fix it

Turned out to be a quack.

He has a staph infection

Six weeks on an IV

Will it really go away

We’ll have to wait and see.

A colostomy that was revised

Then they put him back together

If you want to know his “plumbing’s” fine

No matter what the weather.

They tried to save the bad hip

It’s called core decompression

We prayed that it would work…

Eight months, and then regression.

Seven surgeries in eighteen months

And more pain then "I" could stand

When I said the words “in sickness”

This isn’t what I planned.

Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t

Trade him for the sun

And after all our marriage

Has only just begun.

But if there is one thing I've learned

In this stressful life

It’s you have to keep your sense of humor

Even in the face of strife.

So God I’m asking now

Please help Joe get well soon…

Cause we’ve been married two long months

With no damn honeymoon!

You began and ended this marvelous piece with touches of humor, but the greatest part of all is that you are an amzing woman to atand by your man through so many curves and up and downs. Great job! Thank you for sharing and being an inspiration. Good luck in the contest.

::Surprised that she hasn't read your poetry before:: The rhyme flows very smoothly, and I was almost surprised to find a poem on here that rhymed without seeming forced. Anyway, great job on this, and I will go read some more of your poems.

Yes there is really a Joe, and yes he has had all those problems. But he's had me by his side thru all the most recent: Colostomy (accident) - Revision (6 days later) - Reversal (3 months later) – Core Decompression (AVN top of femur dying) - Back surgery for herniated disk (he got an infection and the doctor didn’t treat it properly) – Back surgery (to remove the infection and clean up the debris) – The core decompression failed (we can’t be sure it wasn’t effected by the infection) and now he needs a hip replacement; but he’s still on IV antibiotics for the infection and they want to make sure that it’s gone (not that they can really be sure) before they take care of his hip. He only has two weeks left on the IV then he gets to take oral antibiotics for awhile. When they did the MRI’s on his hip and back they discovered a hernia… we haven’t even looked into that one yet. We got married May 22, 2004, we spent 7 hours on the 24th in the emergency room, because he was in so much pain. We canceled our honeymoon the next day and called the neurologist he’s used in 95 for back surgery to see is he could fix the problem. By that time the infection had spread and was surrounding his spine. The doctors are assuming that it got into the bone. We are just praying that they can cure it. We are trying to keep our spirits up and mostly we do. Like I tell him pray for the best; prepare for the worst… And look around and see all the people who are in worse shape than you are; that way you can remember to count your blessings. I want to thank everyone for their prayers.

I loved this! What a wonderful ode to a poor, poor falling apart man from the poor woman who sits in the waiting rooms with him! From the top of your head, lady you did wonderful. It takes me hours to squeeze out the rhyme

    Get well Joe!
