I Need A Friend

My mind can be my enemy.
It keeps me doing wrong.
My words turn into lies.
Nights are much too long.

My mind is like a prison.
It will not set me free.
The walls are all around.
They're closing in on me.

My mind can be a friend.
Help me crack this wall.
I need to get out soon.
Or not get out at all.

I must control my mind.
Not let it control me.
I need help my friend.
Help to set me free.

I must win my battle.
If only for today.
My enemy hides nearby.
To take my friend away.

Help me feel the brightness.
Make me feel brand new.
Chase away my enemy.
It's the other side of you.

    The mind

How wicked or wonderful it can be. we have those times when it just drags us down. But this fine write tells me you shall overcome that part of your mind

      Great Comment

Hello Bob. Thank you for reading one of my older poems. This was written before I accepted Jesus Christ in my heart. It was three years ago today. Thank you for stopping by. Always so nice to hear from you. Take care. Hugs, Sandy

antidisestablishmentarianism isn't nearly as long as hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. you're all lucky you can copy/paste else i'd have made the word a really, really, hideously long one.

    anyway, to the poem.

overall, quite a good poem. i like it, i can relate to it somewhat. altho, here and there it struggled to keep the rhythm. for example:
"It will not set me free.
The walls are all around me.
    They're closing in on me."
i would recommend just having 'the walls are all around' because having three lines that rhyme with each other sort of disrupt the rhyme scheme a bit.
other than that, a good effort. thanks for entering, and good luck.

    Rock On!

The mind can be our best friend, or our worst enemy, you sure got it right with this poem. I have known the feeling of being trapped, my mind trying to destroy me, I hope you find your 'friend' and they release you from your 'enemy'
A awsome write I enjoyed reading it and can really relate.
Take care and good luck in the contest

    So True!

I think the wors, "'AntidisestablishmentarianisM" is the longest word in the american dictionary, and your the only other person who I seen say it, write it!. It is so true that our minds will decieve us. Luckly we have hearts. Oh yeah, they will decieve us to. Luckly we have facts, oh yeah, they will decieve us too. Dang, I guess we will have to rely on God's facts and blind faith! lol Very nice write here, you are so true when it comes to this!
