Stars
Standing and looking at the heavens
the naked eye only sees what it can
the bright twinkling stars, steady planets
every changing moon
And one begins to wonder where do I fit in?
Am I the twinkling stars,
every changing in color
from red to blue to green?
Do I find my heart never at a constant;
always fluctuating?
Or am I the steady but strong planets
that wander the sky at night?
Could I be foreign and uninhabitable,
or harbor the secret to extraterrestrial life?
Could I be the moon?
Waning and Waxing, New or Full.
It is ever present in the night's sky
no matter how it shapes and changes.
No, I could not be these things,
for they are always changing,
never constant and hard to explain.
I am the night's sky.
Full and black and so expansive
I emcompass all the balls of gaseous "stars",
the wandering planets
and the moon; full or new.
I blanket the world in darkness,
the night full of peace and comfort.
But this is not all I do,
for in the eve I am the twilight,
full of colors and hues of reds and oranges.
Center of love's romantic interludes.
I am also the sunrise!
Overflowing with the anticipation of another day,
the awakening of a heart,
opening of the spirit
and welcoming of a new time.
I am the night's sky.
Come look at my stars,
admire the planets and gaze at the moon.
I welcome all to look upon me
and the beauty that I hold within.
I could never be just stars.
