Solitary Irish Rose

I looked out my window today
To the warm green surroundings of Ireland
I'm away from you, and I can't stand it
There's so many things I want you to see
The windows of my room - so unique in their position
Through one, a sunset
And the other, a sunrise
I get lost in the greens and blues of the endless horizon
Fly away with the windmills atop distant mountains
But today they hold no comfort for me
On this, the fifth day of my absence
Talking to you on the phone
Brings you closer to my heart
But not to my home
Why can't you share this beauty with me?
One day you will
One day you'll walk the twelve-mile country road
Watch the solitary buzzard fly low
Hold me in the sunset
Kiss me in the sunrise
And lose yourself in the artistic flavour of my homeland

This is for my English/Austrian boyfriend who I was apart from in the summer of 2004. He hadn't been to my home yet. I chose this title cos my middle name's Rose and I'm his Irish rose.

'Twelve mile road' is such a beautiful image, I think you should develop it more. Introduce it into a new poem, enhance the concept, and create something wonderful. sigh The buzzard still flies low nearby? Have you spotted it recently?

    Your friend,
    Kain

Gorgeous! Absolutly beautiful, the imagery and the heart ache, the longing to share the beautiful things in your life, with the person you love the most.

Ah, lovely. I have never been to Ireland and from reading this poem, I really want to go. I want to see how quickly I can get drunk in a pub and how green the country really is (and if leprachauns exist, lol ). Such a beautiful poem for your boyfriend. Thanks again for entering and good luck!

Hehe, acutally, Donegal isn't part of the north. Some people get confused cos it's part of the province Ulster. There are 6 counties in Northern Ireland, and 9 in Ulster. Thanx for the comment, it was wonderful.

Wow, thank you soooooo much for bringing this poem to my attention. I LOVE it. Amazing imagery. Makes me proud to be Irish when I look out and see the beauty of the country-side. It will always be my HOME no matter where I go or what happens.

"I get lost in the greens and blues of the endless horizon
Fly away with the windmills atop distant mountains "

I really like these two lines. SO beautifully written.
All of Ireland is beautiful but I am from Dublin. To me the city is beautiful too. I love the noise and the people . Still though I love to just escape in the country-side sometimes and run and breath without watching out for traffic or petrol fumes.
My mummy and daddy take us all to Wicklow every summer for a few weeks. It is great. You are from the Nroth of Ireland ?
I have only ever been to Donegal in Northern Ireland and it is very beautiful.

    Anyway.......bye

So many lonely maids, sat in windows, waiting for the lover's return and so few write a poem on the theme. So, thank you for your reverie. I'm sure your beau will enjoy the countryside you describe, and your heart and home. I like the image of the solitary buzzard, it points up your aloneness. Line 12, shouldn't it be 'your' not 'my' ? Thanks for your entry and good luck.
