Falling in love is an illusion.
We have been given a powerful delusion.
It's just a physical attraction,
Nothing more than a chemical reaction.
How is it, then, that two remain one for life?
How do they endure as man and wife?
True love is the only conclusion,
For it sees beyond the illusion.
Love is more than an emotion
Or some mystical potion.
True love goes beyond any selfish desire.
Attraction is the spark. Love is the fire.
Love is not what you take.
It is the sacrifice you make.
Choosing to love keeps it alive.
That is why true love will survive.
Author notes
Leo Buscaglia once said that people don't fall in love, they grow in love. I thought that was so profound and so true. This poem expands upon that belief.
I believe real love is choice and requires sacrafice.

Wonderful
I really liked this and i do have to agree with LionessK sometimes we can't control who we fall in love with..I would not be writing if not for that fact....Take care Helen -
Sometimes love is like magic..sometimes magic is just an illusion...
This is a very nicely written piece..I agree with most of it..but I don't think real love is always a choice
but it does require sacrafice...
I loved your line "attraction is the spark love is the fire"
that I can agree with but are fires always controllable?
This is beautiful..thank you for sharing your words...
also thank you again for your comment on Sand and Sun...

this is quite profound and as i'm a believer in true love, this struck a delightful chord in me.i love to hear of those old married couples who are still madly in love after many years.first love is great too.love at first sight is fascinating.i love love.it is great to grow in love. -
I bookmarked this one cause it is awsome! I think you have a well stated poem here and I agree with it whole heartedly. I like the part that says Attraction is the spark. Love is the fire.

applaudable
I have to agree with Leo Buscaglia and you-'Love is not what you take.It is the sacrifice you make.'-Love is such a wonderfully divine thing,it is not about taking or what you get-it is about giving-all of you -without any expectations-'Choosing to love keeps it alive. That is why true love will survive'-it sure is about the choices we make-choice of loving unconditionally-I have enjoyed your poem a whole bunch-it reads well and has a lot of depth in it-Thank you for sharing it with us

Too True
So full of truth it was a little hard to read. Having been married for 22 years, I have lived every word you wrote. You truly describe" All Sides of Love". Good luck with the contest. Bluebird
