How many times have I comforted myself,
Gleefully looked away from my destitute reality
Only to find myself, staring back at what is?
To escape on a lucid stream of thoughts
My mind is free, and forever it must be
Wild fantasies on immortality
Galaxy-spanning wars and complicated beasts
Occupied my childhood dreams and livened my senses
Until, with age, I saw my position in the world
A position I abhorred with ever fiber of my being
I was the lowest rung on the ladder
Subject to torment akin to a living hell
I retreated back into myself: I closed up
Totally apathetic, indifferent, and stoic
Welcome to my world
Never before has my sentience perceived such futility
All my attempts at knowing others have failed
Like a living shadow, like a broken guitar string
A misused toy which has lost all functionality
Yet whose owner cant bring themselves to throw away
I see in front of me -right there-
So close I could almost touch it
Hasn’t it always been what was, what ever will be?
I see tired, reddened eyes and trembling lips
Lips who’ve lost all dignity of voice- my reflection

This was truly haunting because there are some many similarities I see here with myself. Many of your eloquent words described my own doubts. Envethough you wrote about animated matter, the meanings here go beyond that. An excellent poem.
