The moon and stars are in his sight
He never stirs or makes a sound
But yet his thoughts come tumbling down
As I stare into his dark brown eyes
His soul begins to materialize
The words flow from within his heart
And gives my life a brand new start
He's been with me since life begun
Our hearts have always beat as one
He's the keeper of my dreams and still
He never sleeps until they're fulfilled
He's the center of my life you see
No one can tear him away from me
He's the storm that ravages in the night
Yet calms my fears and make things right
With his fearless pen he marches on
And every step is like a song
He kiss the winds back in the trees
And gently calms the earth and seas
It may be difficult for me to explain
For the poet and I we share one brain
His thoughts are mines inside my head
Neither he nor I will be misled
He writes about the love he’s lost
But seldom worries about the cost
He writes about his fears, his shame
And life for him is not a game
The poet is more than a man to me
He's the shadow of my simplicity
He's my very life, my every breath
Someday he'll walk with me in death
The sun has risen, his task complete
The poet must now lie down to sleep
His dreams are forever etched in stone
The poet and I are never alone

I love this! You are so talented. I love how you refer to yourself as two seperate people; yourself and the poet. What a brilliant idea. So what is the difference between you two? lol
I see you have that lovely picture up there. You look very nice there. -
A wonderful rambling write. This is an art I have not quite mastered. You seem to write with fluid ease. So you are your muse .. Perhaps thats the difference . My muse seems to change with the passing of a breeze.
Loved the poem

Avril, your poems are so unusual. The focus and depth of your writings are legendary. I am amazed each time I peek into your
fabulous world of imagination. It's a wonderful place proceeded
from a spectacular person. You got it going on my sister!

this makes me think of the poet's taboo... and sheds some light on it.. awesome write, i'm hooked and now i'm off to read more

A wonderful poetic piece of mind and heart and the spirit pens on the words that gather. The ink is spilled with beauty spashing onto the page.

Thanks Damon and welcome back. I appreciate your comments very much. I agree with you, writers are a kind of breed of their own. I'm working on another piece to this poem, it should be out soon.

Well if you are like me you and the poet may never be alone, yet you are always alone if you know what I mean. Very seldom do the all the people around us know quite what to say to us or how to keep us company. Don't you agree? It seems to me that writers or kind of a breed all their own; this I think is what makes this poem so unique and good.

You are an awsome writter and I loved the message in this also the rhyme was right on and not forced at all. Another wonderfuly written piece.

Thanks for your comments Astralshepherd, if you haven't already guessed I am the muse that allows the "I" to pen this piece. I wrote myself in the masculine state so as to give the poem more power. I really liked how you can view this poem in different ways including the biblical sense. Thank you for your applause, it was greatly appreciated. I see your poem "The Preacher's Song" is doing quite well also. It was a really beautiful poem. Avril

Brilliant, simply brilliant!
Avril, thank you so much for stopping and commenting on my poem “The Preacher’s Song” and the generosity of your applause. I guess Dr. King is not everyone’s favorite as a few of the comments are less than flattering. Yours has been one of the most encouraging to. I’m sorry to take so long to return the favor, but here i am at your poem here “The Poet And I.” I see a whole bunch of lovely images here and wonder at the identity of the poet. Is this a real person? Or perhaps the inner\opposite so many of us are aware of. Could this entity be the muse that allows the “I” to pen this piece so artfully. I guess this could also be seen as the Person of The Holy Spirit, the third in the Holy Trinity…the very Breath of God moving and inspiring us to follow Christ, to be light and salt in the world. So many things going on here for me. I adore this piece and must applaud you for it. Thanks for sharing this and allowing me the honor of commenting on it. Blessings and best wishes, richard

interesting
The "poet" within is one entity we can never be separated from, but alas you write as though you are two different people in entirety. I find that to be an amazing analogy. I think that in the field of writing there is no more distinct, artistic class than those who write poems (and songs). I got the image of someone maybe writing a book after reading this piece--reminds me of my "muse" (who unfortunately loves taking impromptu vacations without telling me first). This is a wondrous write, and it reaffirms who you are--a poet, married to your art.
Many blessings,
Raven Aurora

fantastic
This is amazing, i like how you compare your poetry guy and you like two separate people. How did i miss this one.
I will have to pay closer attention. I kind of think we do have a seperate person in our heads sometimes. Sometimes when i read something i wrote for the life of me i can't figure out how i came up with it. It seems like my pen has a mind of its own. You captured that very well.

A very nice poem. I enjoy your rhyming. Rhyming is the way to go. Poems don't have to rhyme, but it sure is an added bonus in my eyes. I can relate to your message in this poem. For me, the poet you speak of is a sleepless voice which haunts the halls of my mind.

AWWW Thank you so much. I loved your rhyme.

Thank you Mary6. If my television hadn't broke down the night before, I probably would not have written this poem. Now that there is no TV to watch I have plenty of time on my hands to write. I'm so happy that you liked it. Go back a bit and read my poem called The Poem And The Poet this is sort of an addition to that one. I think you'll like it also.

I'm not even sure why I put sad in the category. I wasn't quite sure what to put it under, however I removed it from sad. Thank you so much Wattle for your grand comment. You must check out another poem I wrote long long ago called The Poem And The Poet this is sort of an addition to that one. I'm so happy that you liiked it. You my friend Wattle have also made my day or maybe I should say my night. Thank you once again.

what a work of art! you have put into words the poetry in us and how it takes on its own persona. very creatively expressed. 'the shadow of my simplicity'....thats the line that stands out for me in this write. your meter and rhyme continue to expand and be perfected. and the phrases are outstanding.

Oh gee; what a beautiful love poem --- what wonderful journeys you must take together --- and yet I read sad in the Category --- Dia-mond you have written a real gem here – something for we lesser folk to hold and treasure – thank you so much for your effort and for sharing – you have made my day
