When I first met him
THE Him
I thought his name nice, nothing spectacular
I have a fetish for names
Fallon, Julius, Chantalle, Antoinette, Pierre
His name didn't register as a big splash like some others
We talked
Got to know each other
Looking forward to modest meetings
Snuck right under suspicious eyes
His name came to mean
Gentleman, introvert
Sexy, African American
Handsome, humorous
His name begin to sound
Like his full laughter
The deep cadences of his voice
His melodies warming me in waves
His name felt
Like a fantasized brushing of fingertips
Strong masculine arms embracing me protectively
The warm sun on my back at sunset
His name wasn't just a name any longer
It tasted like rich chocolate melting on my tongue
Cool lemonade down my throat in summer
Ardent kisses of a hot and wet tongue romancing mine
His name sounded more and more exotic and beautiful
As time went on
To allow us a blissful relationship
I whispered his name with a smile
When I drifted off to sleep
I raised his name up in prayer
Thanking God for him being in my life
I attempted unsuccessfully to remove his name
From conversations with friends and families
My mind
But I surrendered mentioning him with glee
His name became sacred to me
As marital vows
I wanted to celebrate it like an everyday holiday
When I fell in love with him
I fell in love with his name

aww this is so sweet. this is a love poem as I've never seen before. so many people think that "religious" or "christian" girls cannot have a passionate love for someone, and that just isn't so! but, I love how his name wasn't one that you would have thought as extraordinary, but in the end you fell in love with it (and him). this is just *sigh* so sweet.

thanks for your encouragement because I was experimenting and had no clue of what to write about a name. While writing it, I learned alot about what a name means to me.

Love it.
That was magnificent. You really thought about and detailed what a name really means. A name becomes a personn because that how you know whom you speak of. Your poem gave me a who new outlook on...a name. Its great. Thanx. -
Wow! What a very different and unique contest. I don't think I could write a piece such as this. You faced the challenge head on and appear to have done quite well. Thank you for the privilege and pleasure of reading this. Great job!
