The Rose was ready to be brought
down into the simmering pot;
of Sharon did it come.
A crown of thorns upon its head,
the petals of a precious red
from sweating beads of blood.
The Potter, knowing as He chose,
that He must pick the perfect rose-
no blemish and no spot.
Knowing it was once for all,
He picked that rose to take the fall,
and grieving, let it drop.
Then arose a savour sweet-
Ne'er again would He repeat
that sacred sacrifice.
The giving of a single rose
that carried all our sins and woes;
its petals paid the price.
Instead, the petals thick and lush
of roses after, He did crush-
the savour still quite sweet.
But never could the crushed replace
the Sharon Rose of truth and grace-
that Rose among the wheat.
If we knew how He grieved and wept
because His gift should not be kept;
His love He'd give if we accept
the Rose that He adored.
"Take up your cross and follow me"-
a blend of precious potpourri;
just think what glory for us to be
crushed petals for the Lord.

Ah this is beyond beautiful. A moving and truly lovely sentiment. Your heart is truly open. Rhyme scheme is exceptional. It literally makes the reader pause, breath, digest and move on. One to read aloud, often. Thank you for sharing this wonderful rhyme. ~Pam

Beautiful. Reminds me of "like a rose trampled on the ground, he took the fall and thought of me." Very nice pulling out the "rose and sharon" from the bible and expanding on the analogy.

Very creative piece here... it's got wonderful flow and rhyme to it. Jesus is indeed a wonderful Savior, come to take away the sins of the world. God bless you. ~Melissa

Excellent!
Wow, this is beautiful! I love the rhyme scheme and creativity you put into this. Poems about roses can so easily become cliché, but you avoided that pitfall extremely well... it reminds me of Amy Carmichael's poetry.
You conveyed the feelings of the Potter quite well also. I love how you fit the Gospel message in there. Well done!
