Public Life
Cameras everywhere, Precise movement by all present
Rituals followed to the letter, according to command
In Public Life,
The President and First Lady are used to this.
They must, get
used to this, but is there ever a rest?
Is there ever a decent rest given to the ones the president loves, when they are mourning their loved Father, and President, the most recent decent President the US has had.
Is there no decency?, to give them privacy in their last remaining moments with their feelings of loss.
Rest from
the public
rest from the clicking of cameras
A rest from eyes and lenses, staring at them, dissecting their every move, to see how, in the first Lady's most intimate private feelings; is holding up? If this is the way public life is, I am grateful that I am not famous, not in publics eye, and not the president or First Lady, for the things that I take for granted are to be able to feel in private, to have my private moments, and feel my most intimate moments, privately.

Author notes
This is a a poem I wrote after feeling embarassed for photographers, despite knowing it is their job...embarassment for their lack of dignity for the First Lady, and her few moments of peace, to have cameras clicking away, during her most sad moments following her husbands life. I found this sad, and disturbing. peelingsunburn June 11/04

I really appreciate your time and effort to reply to my poem. I am glad that you weren't as shocked or differing in views, but i respecct everyone's different ideas. :-D It was a shame, yes, and everyone does die eventually. It's a shame that anyone can have memories taken away from them from a disease. That has to be so tough for family and friends as well. Thankyou for your time and thoughts.

I still don't get why they insist on having this funeral stuff on TV for Reagen 24/7.
The media's always pissed me off the way they devour people's personal lives without a care for the individual. "Freedom of the Press" is abused constantly. Though Reagen was no role model for me, they should let he and his family rest. With all the commotion going on, I wouldn't be surprised if he got up out of his grave to tell everyone to shut up and get back to what they were doing. -
::grins:: When I first saw this, I thought, "Oh boy, our views are going to clash here," but I read this, and suddenly we're following the same wavelength. Reagan died...that's a shame. It was going to happen eventually, so why do we make such a huge deal out of it, when he was all but forgotten in life?
