Bruised

Into the future He looked with deep stare,
Right now in my mind, I can see Him there.
His thoughts to the future sins of mankind
As blood ran to His eyes He became blind.

For He was beat with a shard bearing strap
As He overcame and conquered sin's trap.
They beat on His back, His sides and His chest,
His legs and His arms: Yes, this was love's quest.

His body so beaten, down to the bone
But still on His face, love openly shown.
Blows of that whip made His body shudder
Yet never a word did this man utter.

Thoughts of humanity; our sins to come
Though He has been tortured, I sit here numb.
For I see Him hanging there on His Cross,
Mangled and bloody,  He's weak from blood loss.

His shoulders, out of joint, cannot support
His body's weight but still the guards retort;
Hold yourself up straight, You filthy, low king!
For You are royalty, You nasty thing!

His head is turned back, I sit here and see
His beard's been pulled out, His eyes fixed on me.
The love on His face is clearly now seen
I can't help but hear the crowd's loud scream.

They shout and they spit on Him hanging there
But all the while His life He'll not spare
For each of them, and for others to come
He'll cover their sins.  I still sit here numb.

It's then that I realize, this was for me
And for each one that will openly see
That His blood was shed for our forgiveness
We've only to believe in His goodness.

With one thing to do, I call on His name
I realize that it's so simple and plain.
I've only to believe in what He gave,
It's then that from my sins I will be saved.

Man, this poem made me cry. Your words really captured my heart. You did an outstanding job.

They shout and they spit on Him hanging there
But all the while His life He'll not spare
For each of them, and for others to come
He'll cover their sins. I still sit here numb.

Christ, for the supreme sacifice, is worth extolling and His ways are worth following.A man abused, harassed and beaten yet all He preached was Love. I love this piece for acknowledging that Love, a Love the world desires in these jumpy times.

    powerful, deep, strong, true.

Many are the comments this poetical cascade of truth and anguish and love has brought forth. But another I must add... for it moved me... reminded me of the movie The Passion of the Christ. Blood. Love. Grace. You have brought me again to the cross. And I am the better for it. Thank you.

Scorned, hated, despised indeed. You touch all the aspects of His anguish and death. How awesome to think that He paid the price for all who will accept. How marvellous to know that He was a true King. Descendant of King David and sent by GOD

Dynamic is the only word that comes to mind. I worship at the entire thing, thinking on my Lord. Yet one line hit my heart with so much power:
    His eyes fixed on me...
Tears formed and I only shake my head. You did a beautiful, beautiful job at painting our Lords sufferings, and a greater job of showing why He suffered. Love. Great piece. To the Glory of God.

Hi Melissa. A beautiful heartfelt write and message. He loved us so much that He took our punishment so that we could be reconciled to a Holy God. Through all His suffering we are shown His great love. You have captured this in you poem dear one. As the Bible says, "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends." Well crafted and a much enjoyed read. Shelley

Wow~I've never commented on a poem that has had so many applauses. I am glad for the positive responses you have received from this moving, gut wrenching write. The only thing I can compare it to is the movie Passion of Christ. You didn't miss a beat on explaining the horrible things our Lord had to endure-one who knew no sin, but was made to be sin for us. No wonder it is so grievious when someone refuses Him. This beautiful perfect gift-there's for the asking and yet they refuse claiming they still don't believe. Sadly enough, one day they will believe.

    INSPIRING AND BEAUTIFUL POEM

This beautiful poem brings back the words that I read in a novel titled "I Centurian' the line that comes to my mind is as the centurian is standing, watching Jesus on the cross and hears him forgive both who are next to him, says that is the answer. Love begets only love. Hate begets more hate and so many other things we do and say only hate becomes of it but when love is given only love comes back. Lovely and inspiring poem.
