Bruised

Into the future He looked with deep stare,
Right now in my mind, I can see Him there.
His thoughts to the future sins of mankind
As blood ran to His eyes He became blind.

For He was beat with a shard bearing strap
As He overcame and conquered sin's trap.
They beat on His back, His sides and His chest,
His legs and His arms: Yes, this was love's quest.

His body so beaten, down to the bone
But still on His face, love openly shown.
Blows of that whip made His body shudder
Yet never a word did this man utter.

Thoughts of humanity; our sins to come
Though He has been tortured, I sit here numb.
For I see Him hanging there on His Cross,
Mangled and bloody,  He's weak from blood loss.

His shoulders, out of joint, cannot support
His body's weight but still the guards retort;
Hold yourself up straight, You filthy, low king!
For You are royalty, You nasty thing!

His head is turned back, I sit here and see
His beard's been pulled out, His eyes fixed on me.
The love on His face is clearly now seen
I can't help but hear the crowd's loud scream.

They shout and they spit on Him hanging there
But all the while His life He'll not spare
For each of them, and for others to come
He'll cover their sins.  I still sit here numb.

It's then that I realize, this was for me
And for each one that will openly see
That His blood was shed for our forgiveness
We've only to believe in His goodness.

With one thing to do, I call on His name
I realize that it's so simple and plain.
I've only to believe in what He gave,
It's then that from my sins I will be saved.

Man, this poem made me cry. Your words really captured my heart. You did an outstanding job.

They shout and they spit on Him hanging there
But all the while His life He'll not spare
For each of them, and for others to come
He'll cover their sins. I still sit here numb.

Christ, for the supreme sacifice, is worth extolling and His ways are worth following.A man abused, harassed and beaten yet all He preached was Love. I love this piece for acknowledging that Love, a Love the world desires in these jumpy times.

Amazing. You captured the love he gave in a few simple words. Absolutly breath-taking. I myself have only just found Jesus. MY journy is told in my poem Opening Up to the World. If you would care to look at it. Again Amazing poem!

You Have brought forth our Lord's passion with such conviction and attention to the torture and torment he endured for our sake, for my sake, because of love.

    Thank you for this poem.

Wow what a great amazing poem. The rhyming of the poem really put it together. The story everyone knows and you made it come to life. Yes, it was very sad but it brought happiness to my eyes because the poem was so wonderful. I am Jewish and I'm still amazed at the story. Amazing poem

    powerful, deep, strong, true.

Many are the comments this poetical cascade of truth and anguish and love has brought forth. But another I must add... for it moved me... reminded me of the movie The Passion of the Christ. Blood. Love. Grace. You have brought me again to the cross. And I am the better for it. Thank you.

Scorned, hated, despised indeed. You touch all the aspects of His anguish and death. How awesome to think that He paid the price for all who will accept. How marvellous to know that He was a true King. Descendant of King David and sent by GOD

Dynamic is the only word that comes to mind. I worship at the entire thing, thinking on my Lord. Yet one line hit my heart with so much power:
    His eyes fixed on me...
Tears formed and I only shake my head. You did a beautiful, beautiful job at painting our Lords sufferings, and a greater job of showing why He suffered. Love. Great piece. To the Glory of God.

    Beautifully written...

I had to stop in again to read this poem one more time - it's giving me goose-bumps all over again... If I could applaud once more, I would, but all the applause in the world can never compare to His sacrifice for all of us... I'm glad for people like you, who can feel His pain and suffering, and can convey that to us... You're a beautiful lady.
