I'd do what I do every day.
Sweep the clothing of humanity
Into the basket of Love.
Take them to the river of memories,
plunge them into the waters of respite
where they lie,
undulating softly.
There gently lapping,
easing out the stains of guilt
and grime from playing
in the dirt of denial,
I soap them gently with peace.
This liquid of generosity
finds and clears the pores
of their true path
to oxygenate their calling
and ease the sores of life.
I rinse them then
in the pool of elation,
condition their veneer of wisdom
and allow them to swell softly
with the might of omnipotence.
Then I hang them to dry
in the breezes of rebirth,
to be lifted noisily
to flights of freedom.
When breezes have lightened them,
I sprinkle them again
with the grace of strength
and iron the imprint of love
into every fibre of every one.
I return them then,
to hang in the closet of life
where the scent of ME remains
to be inhaled
with every sigh...

Glad you read one of mine so that I could find this place and read this write of yours. As others have said, obviously you're aware that this is a well liked piece and I'll do nothing to diminish that view. Well done with a wonderful gift of imagination and clarity - a picture drawn that we all can easily understand - a sort of parable in poetry here. Wonderful write. Paul

If this is what you can come up with when laundering is the inspiration , you are most certainly invited to my house ...all I get out of it are smelly sweatsocks and holy t-shirts . A stunning inspirational write that will be bookmarked

really good...strangely appealing.

beautiful
This is one of the most amazing and well thought out poems I've ever read. The detail...the desciption...everything; flawless. Thank you for writing it. It was an amazing read. -
Wow...this is so relatable to what so many people do...no...not laundry...but life!...it can be seen in many views...either as a single day....or as a lifetime...it is remarkable...you should be proud
-There gently lapping,
easing out the stains of guilt
and grime from playing
in the dirt of denial,
I soap them gently with peace.
-that is my favorite part....but its all great!

WELL, judging by how much applause you have gotten I would say that you already know that this is a simply AMAZING poem. I am a HUGE fan of using metaphors and literary technique in general in your poetry because it's great for further expressing your point and showing that you are an educated person that at least kind of knows what they're doing...and you certainly do.
This was well-thought out, in-depth and very touching. It was optomistic, spoke of life in a way that the reader didn't feel overwhelmed and was just really great in general.
I am done sounding like my English teacher

Ah, if only we could launder life! I don't know where this piece emerged from, but if only I had access to the spring of inspiration that you seem to know! This piece is so fantastic...and unique. I don't think I saw such a positive perspective on something as trifling and quotidian as washing clothes.
You took extra special care to each piece of "clothing" (which could represent people or situations) and made sure they were infused with virtues after being cleansed of vices. This is a stunning piece, so visual and representative of your own precious caring. Thank you for the flawless write!
Many blessings,
Raven Aurora

I wonder if this is what God does every day? I was reading what indecisive wrote about the river of memories....I think I have a river of memories. My dad helped develpe them long time ago. He said that they had to be created, and he spent his life doing so. I truely loved your poem....pure "magic" TaaDaa!!

Great write! I love the phrases 'the river of memories' and 'this liquid of gererosity' - shame you can't find them in real life!
-
Great
This is awesome, it actually sounds like you wrote a recipe or something. I really like it, did you add any sprinkles of kindness? lol Rock on, keep going! -

Wooo hooo!! I think that this poem is not only creative, but by all means a show of the talent you've got inside you. I enjoyed reading this piece, it was easy to follow and there was quite a message with this one. Who doesn't love the smell of clean laundry?? Especially in the way that you've washed it. Excellent job, Ginger... I think I may have to bookmark this one so I can keep coming back. Only one slight little suggestion, though... "where they lies"... Is that supposed to be....Where they lay? Wonderful job on the writing, keep it up!
~Aimee

Wow! Great metaphors!
"Sweep the clothing of humanity
Into the basket of Love." --> love this line...
Humanity is indebted to the likes of you. Keep on writing and keep on making the world "laundered" as it needs to be
Great write!
-
outstanding write ging. I have read a few pieces of work from you before, and I got to hand it to ya, you are a supreme poet. Your work always holds true, and you keep to your opinion, but most of all I love how you are so real in your writing. From my perspective you write what you believe, instead of what others want to hear. Thanks a lot for sharing your work with us, please keep up the great work
-
That is absolutely beautifully written. But even more than that I believed that is exactly what you would do. It didn't come from no-where ,it came from your heart. I am totally in awe of the expanded love you have. Well written. Excellent.
-
I'm agnostic, so being god for a day wouldn't include doing any laundry...I get the point of the poem and it is a very different perspective. kudos!!!
-
Excellent
Well GingerandHoney:
You have really out done yourself this time. This is a terrific write with more metaphores than I can possibly count. It is an excellent write and I enjoyed the way you set the stage by using the cleansing of the very fiber of every person. A lot of thought and searching went into this wonderful write and I appreciate your effort. Thank you for sharing this excellent write. Bill -
Wow... this was a great take on the theme of the contest, I must say. While others would think of granting wishes as some sort of omnipotent genie, you thought of the good of all mankind and society. Truly inspiring, and well-written also.
Best of luck in the contest.

It seems as if it arrived from a place compassionate and strong. To be God for a day...certainly is something to think about. I think you've done well with this concept. Excellent word choice by the way
-
i love the details even tho i don't believe in god it still makes me wonder what i would do if i could do everything
-
This was a really good write, your take o this was very interresting, god and clothes, wow, that is very imangantive, yea don't know how to spell that, but I hope you get what i mean, good luck in the contest!
-
that was very good and imaginative and had a love oof great imagery.
BRAVO!
Loved it!
Keep up the awesome work!
-
i like this so much, a very creative and lovely take on the contest topic. you did a wonderful job and it made me smile too.
-
Interesting take, Ginger. As an agnostic and part-time philosopher, I spend quite a bit of time pondering the God question -- but I must say I've never tried to picture the God being as a laundress. Thanks for a creative new twist. As for the writing, it is very nicely done -- excellent imagery, great economy of words, and it flows well, too. Great write!
-
Inspiring
I very much like the everyday image to define the role of a God. This makes the poem accessible like a parable. Once again your poetry is rich in a variety of sensual appeals: tactile, sight, and a terrific closing stanza of the scent of the divine. I believe scent to be the longest lasting (in terms of sense memory)and perhaps most primative (in terms of immediate emotional response) on the sense -- thus you tie into an almost tribal sense of the almighty with a plesant image of the everyday task of washing. -
I would like to find that nowhere you claim to have come from.
This picture in my head, I thank you for, is making me smile. -
this is a great poem , i liked it .. a lot better then the other person doing a write for this contest
-
That was the best poem I've read in a very long time. Great job.
-
I can't imagine being God or doing that job for even one day but you certainly depicted it beautifully in this wonderful piece. This is extremely creative. I enjoyed it immensely.
-
nice job
This poetry write has beautiful imagery first of all. Even though this contest might get to have a little too powerful content, everything that I've seen from this contest is exceptional including this one! I like this poem and I like the way you used your words. This is very innovative and nice. I also like the way you capitalized "ME". That was cool. Well I hope I didn't bore you to death.
Good job.
-
Wow, tells it all, I love "in the breezes of rebirth," something about that line, just popped out at me. You make it all sound so simple, yet somedays I can't find the river, who am I fooling, somedays I can't find the basket to put them in. You need to add directions to these things, so we don't feel so lost. very nice write.

Work of Art
I loved the rhythm and the structure of this poem, it was a poem that made the reader feel something. A work of art, Luv Niky xx -
excellent
wonderful use of words ,very unique in perspective, well written with incredible thoughts -
hmmm...an amazing metaphorical write, my friend. I'm sure it takes a female perspective to ever envision being God as akin to doing laundry. Very creative and incredibly unique!
-
I love the images you have created within your poem. But then, you would have to be creative to God-like wouldn’t you? I especially enjoyed your last metaphorical image of the fragrant scent of being in the presence of God lingers within the closet…beings as garments…for God to wear and walk around in…sort of a “what if God was one of us “ kind of images. That may not be what you intended but it is what i got out of a very wonderfully created piece. Good luck in the contest; this is a wonderful entry and should do well. Blessings and best wishes ~richard

Wow. Amazing peice, Gingerandhoney. I really liked it. It's metaphorical tone was quite pleasing and soft. I liked all of it, so I won't bother quoting my favourite parts
Well done. Good luck in the contest.

wow...i need not be repetitive...this is an exquisite poem....(im not sure how fond i am of the speakers position...i feel that the use of I too much lowers its sophistication) but i do understand the reasons. (though i think you have quite the potential to be more creative in the speakers position) well anywyas....lovely poem indeed. some nice imagery!
-
very creative metaphoric poem. going about God’s business as one would go about doing laundry, ironing and hanging up the clothes afterwards – how clever this is. And I liked the things you would do if you were God for a day – filling with love, removing guilt, enlightening and filling with joy and elation. good stuff! this should do well in the contest.
excellent writing. I enjoyed reading this immensely.

this is a beautiful poem which has me really thinking... and the end is superlative. The analogy of washing and thereby [to me] the 'cleansing' of souls - lost or otherwise stayed with me as I read. the lines I wish i had been clever enough to write are these
There gently lapping,
easing out the stains of guilt
and grime from playing
in the dirt of denial,
I soap it gently with peace.
they blew me away
thank you so much for sharing this poem
This is a very accomplished piece of poetry that -
lovely
I really like the way you take life and clean it up, the waters and soap each having their own significance. Your language is graceful and undulating as well, relaxing me through to the end. There is nothing so filthy that it does not come clean with the infinite love of God. I understand from the terms of the contest that all this will be forgotten tomorrow. Too bad!
-
i love the metaphores. its an awesome poem. Its amazing how you see the world thru gods eyes.
-
this is really really clever and i like it very much. Well done!!
-
I LOVE the mataphore here, and the fact that you see your day as God not as a day of indulgence, but of work. good luck!
