The Other Little Ships Need Jesus, Too!

*VERSE ONE:
When Jesus saw the multitude at eventide,
He departed in a ship unto the other side;
But there arose a windy tempest in the sea
So that all the little ships were found in jeopardy!
The storm was great; the boat was filled up to its brim;
The disciples, fearing, frantic, went and sought for Him-
Well, Jesus was upon a pillow fast asleep,
So they ran and cried, "We perish, Master, in the deep!"

VERSE TWO:
He answered, "Why are you afraid? Your faith is small"-
They forgot that Jesus has the power over all!
He stopped the winds and waters, saying, "Peace, be still,"
All because He did according to His Father's will.
We know about the story of the tempest great,
But the other little ships- what was their final fate?
I guess they never had a chance to stay afloat,
For they never had the "Life Preserver" in their boat!

CHORUS:
The other little ships are sinking fast,
They're suff'ring in the storm- they may not last;
The disciples had Jesus- we know this is true,
But the other little ships need Jesus, too!*

Author notes

While reading the passage about Jesus stilling the storm from the book of Mark, I noticed that the author added a detail that the other Gospel writers did not: "And there were also with him other little ships."
I began to think about that, and I thought about why the disciples were "so fearful"- I'm thinking they saw all those other little ships sinking!
Praise God- they DID have the "Life Preserver" in their boat!

    Good Write

    heismysong, You've retold a familiar story with a fresh and thoughtful perspective. What did happen to the other small boats...good question. Our security is in Jesus and no other. The chorus brings the point home, a message revelant yet today. Good Write, Dennis :^)

    This is a good poem. I like the rhyme, meter, and message. It's a different look at the story, I haven't decided yet whether it's a good different or not so good different.

    You know how you click on "Read" on the bar at the top, and it takes you to the list of those who've added poems most recently? I think I was just scanning through there for a title that caught my interest, and this poem's title did, so I came to read it.

    I think it's a rather sad song. There are so many lost who don't know Christ and perish.

    Just a question of curiosity- how did you find my poem? Did you just go under "lyrics"? Just wondering...

    That passage has always been one of my favorites. I just liked Jesus' attitude towards the disciples then, almost like he was amused they were afraid in a way, you know? Anyways though, this was a really cute write, I like how you described the whole situation from many points of view, and the language used made me feel as if I was in one of those ships. I also liked that little "Live Preserver" touch. ^_^ Anyways, a very well written piece here, and I loved the rhyming by the way.
    Renae.
