My First Race

I swiftly walked around the bright green blue water
With the steady flip flop of my shoes hitting the pavement.
I slipped them off.
The constant panging of my ecstatic heart,
As I lowered my numbed body into the ice cold pool.
I casually positioned myself facing the cement wall.
I was ready.
With one deep breath I prepared for this abysmal moment.
"Swimmers on your marks, get set, GO!"
A smooth rush of sparkling water glided over my body.
One stroke,
Two strokes,
Three and four.
The swishing sound of my hands when they hit the water,
And my feet fluttering in front of me,
Deafening the boisterous crowds lining the silver fence.
I sucked my breath in as I reached the end.
Inhaled a monstrous amount of awful chlorinated water.
I kept going, coughing and gagging.
Suddenly and abrupt end to my swimming came.
I hit the metal gutter.
I'd finished, finally I'd finished!
I slid out of the empty pool in the very dead, last place,
But was still happy to have finished
My very first race.
