You were not young
or pretty.
Your name, Ena
was a joke to pupils.
Over the years you demanded
respect
But behind your back
they laughed.
Because of this I felt sorry.
I saw the hurt
from whispers you overheard.
I tried to make it better
I gave you small gifts
wrapped with Christmas ribbons,
which you left on you desk
all day
for others to see.
Somebody cared.

Aw... this was so sweet! I'm sure she appreciated your offerings more than you can imagine. People forget that teachers are just as human as everyone else, and it does hurt to feel unappreciated.
A beautifully sweet tribute to an obviously meaningful teacher.

A very sweet tribute poem for a woman who obviously not only taught you history, but also how to be a good person.
Welcome to Allpoetry and good luck with the contest

Lovely tribute, good luck. Dave.

Very sweet, I am sure she knew you cared and although teachers do get a hard time (my cousin is one) they are generously rewarded by those that do seem to show an interest and gain something from them. Fantastic tribute piece.
Good luck and thanks for entering
