A birthday poem for Ramon (a.k.a Ultraman)

Hysteria  hits the masses
the country's stockmarket crashes
Gold sell for ten dollars an ounce
For weeks the media announce
the twenty first of April
has been declared in a new bill
- signed by the president last fall -
a public holiday for all.
He warned us in a recent speech
(spread where ever the media reach)
On this day to commemerate
one's birth who made our nation great.
He asked the nation to be sane
that the economy again
can stabilize and rear it's head
and give to all their jam and bread.

And what, you ask, is the event
that seems to be so salient?
Is it the birthday of the queen
(on this day it has always been!)
Or what else can we celebrate
that has importance just as great?
Maybe its something more local
the Afrikaner's great mogul
old Jan Van Riebeeck now long gone
sixteen-nineteen this day was born
But none of them I am afraid
made this a significant date.

Enter - my good friend Ultraman
South Africa's own Bin Laden
not much a terrorist per se
but a great fighter anyway
His methods too are more refined
a man with a most brilliant mind
he never once took up the sword
but always has preffered the word.
what's wrong he does not tolerate
He keeps his honour't any rate
But he has one  Achilles heel
(nothing uncommon there I feel
all great man have their weaknesses
greater the man greater it is!)
Money! - the love of it will shoot
in due time evil's ugly root
My dear friend loves the power it brings
In corp'rate worlds it gives you wings!
And that of course is his great dream
to swim with big fish in the stream...

But now Ramon my dearest friend
I'm lazy to proceed my rant
Hereby I will concede - I fail
to finish this heroic tale.
So let me now conclude with this -
I hope this day will bring you bliss
You're one good man maybe not great
(You know I  ne'er believed that fate
Will guide us in our future ways)
So I will wish you happy days
from the good hand of our Lord
that He will save you from the mort
until you've found your heart's desire
which is that ere you will retire
you'll be Mariah's confidente
and own a billion deo volente!

    Thanks Shamik.

I would like to see your poem. I'm a great fan of Pope myself(the only Pope that actually interests me!) and the Rape of the Lock is of course considered to be one of his best mock heroic verses and incidentally a favourite of mine.

    Hi there,
I feel that this was a great write, it was a sweet write, I have to agree personal things such as birthdays, weddings, always mean so much. You have done well with expressing your emotion, I feel that you have put a lit of thought into this. Well done once again. I hope that you continue to write and continue to share. All the best to you and yours

    Blue moon

Hilarious. The heroic couplets make it all the more funny. I have a long poem in heroic couplets inspired by Pope's The rape of the Lock, for which I died laughing.I'll make sure I send it to you when I post it.I loved your background. Kinda ironic.
    still laughing.....
