for Rhonda F. Hallstrom

You were my dearest friend, and I still think of you as such
But your untimely death has hurt me very much

When I was depressed, I always turned to you
you always seemed to know exactly what to do

when something made me happy, to you I'd often go
and share the good news with the one I wanted to know

we didn't always agree, but at least we understood
each others point of view, and that's what made it good

I was very happy for when you got a profitable job
little did I know then, that fate had in mind to rob

the e-mails stopped coming, and I wondered why
so I called you grandma, and she told me that you'd died

I felt so empty, like my heart had been ripped out
where once was hope and happiness was only pain and doubt

I miss the times we had when we walked the earth together
and look forward to the time when we will walk again forever

until then I shall miss you, and do my best to cope
I thank you for your friendship, and the times you gave me hope

It sounds like you found one of those really rare and wonderful friendships that are incredibly hard to lose. I think your friend would be very honored to know how much she meant to you, and this is a beautiful tribute to her. I hope the pain has eased for you in the time since this was written...I'm sure she's definitely one of those people you'd never want or be able to forget.

Thank you for sharing your entry in the contest, and good luck to you.

    Best wishes,
    ~J.
