Many Lifetimes

MANY LIFETIMES

It was many, many years ago
Another lifetime from the past
You were a handsome rogue
I, a bonnie Irish lass

You caught my eye one sunny morn
As you rode down from the highland
You stole my heart that very glance
I vowed someday you'd be my man

I dreamt of making love to you
On the beach, in the ocean spray
And under stars that shone for us
As you took my breath away

But alas, it was not meant to be
For you sailed away that eve
N'er to return again
My soul did cry and grieve

My heart did break, t'would be my death
I swore I'd love you forever
With my last breath, I closed my eyes
I'd love another, never

I searched for you for many years
Through many lifetimes since
I'd know you by your gentle eyes
And I thought I saw you once

It was on the plains of Dakota
You were a handsome brave
I was an indian maiden
And your love I truly craved

You set out one day upon your horse
To hunt the buffalo
You kissed my lips and said goodbye
You left with only bow and arrow

The night did come, still no return
My heart ached with growing pain
Fallen by the white man's gun
I knew you'd not be back again

You went to the Great Spirit above
And I knew I'd follow you soon
But I would search to the ends of the earth
For many, many moons

Still again, there was another time
We sailed together upon the sea
Aboard a luxury liner
Not sure what our fate would be

And then we hit disaster
The ship became no more
I felt your hand slip out from mine
I prayed we'd meet upon the shore

I was put into a life boat
I painfully cried out to you
My heart sank with the ship that day
There was nothing I could do

Now here we are again, my love
I pray you will not let this die
For I'm not sure how many lifetimes we'll get
To give our love another try

    ~*~*~*~*~*~

But alas my love, you did not heed
these words I begged of you
and now our time is near it's end
Once again...I bid you sweet adieu!

What a fantastic Ballad! Two old souls still searching for eachother in every life time. I sometimes meet people whom I have an instant connection with, like i have known them all my life. This poem reminds me of that feeling.. Perhaps, I knew them in a different life time. This was spectacular! Thank you for entering my contest, and good luck.

I have read many tales of star-crossed lovers, but none with so MANY fatal endings!! This was engagingly written with good rhymes, I enjoyed it a lot, and got a twinge in my heart.
Best of luck in the contest!

This is just beautiful! I love this poem so much - yours definitely deserves to win! This is classic in every word of the sense - love knows no boundaries. I love how you worked the Titanic into it - at least I believe the ocean liner you refer to is the legendary Titanic. This is just amazing - I can't applaud it enough!

this is just so romantic - sigh!!! - A wonderful story in rhyme - imagine it on the big screen though - a younger me as the female lead and Orlando Bloom as the dashing young man. Sorry Penny I digress - a most beautiful poem - a love transcending time itself.

This is classic, not in the usual way I mean it, this actually is classical. I've never seen anything like it. This is pure poets magic at work in it's finest form, weaving fanciful tapestries from thin air. Thankyou so much for bringing everyone this ray of unrivalled sunshine.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...this is simply beautiful! Well written, well crafted, just so damn well done! Endless love, *sigh* This reminds me of the song "Circle" by Harry Chapin (Our love is like a circle, lets go round one more time) Happens to be my favorite song, and this happens to be my current favorite poem!

I clicked on this though the shameless promotion box.....I am so glad that I did.

interesting view Damon..I do like to believe that we can spend more than one lifetime with the same person or people, learning lessons needed with the same friends and loved ones..tho, I could be wrong..that's something we may never know for sure... thank you for your insightful comment, I appreciate your visits very much :)

Many lifetimes together; what a wonderful thought to love someone enough to want to spend even one with each other, but more than one. I have to wonder is there anyone that would want to spend a second and a third lifetime together. I suspect not, still the poem and the thoughts are beautiful.

this transcends the plains of all writes...
how love can go from one to the other to the other...
only wanting to have it be the right time....
the patience to this and the belief in faith is spectacular and so strong and true
i have had moments in my life... like this..
and now... i wonder.... can i hold it...
am i deserving enough now? is it finally my time?
    i hope so...
    tho if not..
    like your write.. its ok
sadly i will wait once again

I believe we will!

Oh, Rubee, this is wonderful!! I love it and it's message. It's quite a story, you could write a novel based on this.
I can relate to this so well, too... I know it probably sounds dorky but I have a love whom I feel this way about....as if we've been together througout many life times. Read my poem 'You and Me' It's one I wrote some time ago and have been thinking about editing and revising it slightly. It's not nearly as wonderful as yours but at the time I wrote it, I went with my feelings.
I really like your poetry, and will get to all of it in time.
