Mrs. Holem

Mrs. Holem was an 8th grade teacher
And no Griffin elementary didn't keep her
She taught us poetry and gave us a big project
Which at first I didn't connect
She kept insisting that it was my willful neglect
Until she bugged me into complying
So I picked back up my pen and kept retrying
Soon I became a poem writer
Which took less than an overnighter
She really was the greatest teacher
Her lessons was as good as a double feature
Even though she was fired in the end
All her teachings I did apprehend
I wish she was here for me to say
That I appreciate her and miss her everyday
If it wasn't for her I can truly say
That the poetry that I love would be so dull to me today
She encouraged my imagination, that took my concentration
To greater heights as they say

Author notes

I really really have to stress here that if it wasn't for her i would never have wrote poetry in the frist place, and yes if your asking she did get fired... No words to describe how grateful i am to her....i'm even passing poetry class and art classes in school...^_^

Actually if you want to know, they fired her cause two guys in my class transferred out of her class and they said that she was way too mean and that she couldn't control her anger/annoyance of them....haha, they just didn't do the work, none of it.

Yea, I too am wondering how she got fired. Very tragic, that she touched so many lives to just have it taken away from her.

Thanks for entering and welcome to AP

Soon I became a poem writer

I'm sorry, I have to admit I cringed just a little at this line, the rhyming seemed just a tad forced to me, but hey, thats just me, the rest of the crew mentioned the last 2 lines. These I love, imagination is one thing we can truly call our own, you will reach those great heights one day. Good luck in this contest, Dave.

How on earth could such a wonderful teacher get fired?! Maybe she was too much of a threat to someone's career
I am glad she inspired you to write poetry as you really do to write very confidently it seems.
Good luck and thanks for entering

Wonderful poem to a teacher who truly touched you. Why did she get fired?(they always get rid of the good ones) When my teacher tried to teach us poetry, she would be merciless in critiquing it....and that totally put me off of wanting to write the stuff.

Welcome to Allpoetry and good luck with the contest

I so agree with gem on the profound summation of all this teacher was for you. The body of the poem was nice, but it couldn't compare to those two lines.

Glad she meant that much and you didn't make a project of sensing defeat! Good for you. Thank you for sharing and it's good to have you with us at AllPoetry. You're going to learn even MORE! Warmly, CookieZeal

Those 2 last lines are incredible. I think a Teachers greatest gift would be to hear those words said.
Your appreciation of Mrs. Holem is evident. Thanks for the entry and good luck.
