Elanor and Gabriel 1.

MY loue must surely playne to others be,
when from my loues faire face at last I goe:
they need but looke and in my face wil see,
the light his countenance doth euer show
hath lit my face, and made it lykewise glow.
But when I from his presence forth am gone
and light no more from him to me doth flow,
that light is dimd which briefly from me shone.
Then once more dimme, and once more to him drawne,
I slowe my feete, which gladder farre would run.
And drawing here, I ioy to see the dawne
of him whose presence is mine onely Sun.
And so to wondrous day is turn'd my night,
as I am lit by is most glorious light.

Author notes

I greatly enjoyed writing this poem as part of a course in Renaissance literature.  Instead of one essay, there was an option of writing something in the style of the authors we were studying - Sidney and Spenser.  This sonnet is written using a Spenserian rhyme scheme.  I've tried to make the spelling authentic to the time period as well, tracking down authentic spellings in Sidney or Spenser's works for most of the words I've used.  It has a companion sonnet, which I've posted as "Elanor and Gabriel 2".  The content is from my experience, expressed in Renaissance style.

Well done, I appreciate the research you have put into the archaic spellings. The metaphor of light and dark is also well developed in your metrical and well rhymed sonnet.
Do you have a typo at the beginning of line 5?
    Thanks for entering my contest!
