Irony

Jihadist heaven's
seventy-two virgins:
see, cannot touch!

Author notes

pseudo-senryu

Note: The Koranic verses clearly imply that the virgins of Paradise remain so in perpetuity.

(This is not intended to be 'religion specific', but applies to all fundamental literalists of any ideology.)

Where can one still find 72 virgins? If that is the only idea to heaven, then I guess it will be a long way waiting for.
    Excellent and clever humour!

To each their belief, to each their share, yet reward comes only to those who care...

    Fabulous piece...

LOL. This was quite good. And I do believe it's the shortest of the entries I've gotten thus far, which says a lot that I enjoy it as much as I did. Nicely done, with a flare that you can only find in senryu's, tanku's and haiku's.

first Haiku ever that made my mind dance!

It seems to me like the bribery of religion. It is as lamentable as the intimidation that is used equally often. In my view propagating such illusions is a shameless insult to the infinite greatness of the real Creator, whatever name religions may pin on Him or Her. I am not into Haiku basically, but this one (obviously ) did not miss its target. It hit like a meteor! Thank you

Of course, Myra . But that is a level of abstract, esoteric understanding beyond the primitive, literal mindsets being lampooned here. That is why this is funny...because they believe it is literal, in the material sense.

Now, now, Gal ... ever heard of Spiritual Virgins? A point to ponder ... After marriage and 5 children, I see myself still as a virgin ... Yet, I will not blame anyone for giggling in my face for this comment

Hi Falcon ~ Ha ha! Do you mean "Dubbo" in Oz? Have you been there? Always thought it was a dead-end hole in the middle of nowhere...is it worse now?

Inshalla, indeed! I liked Bill Maher's version...but I always liked the fact that it never said they would be allowed any chance to change the 'virgin' status of those houris. I call that 'poetic justice'.

    Inshalla!

This is great, so true... I think it was Bill Maher who said that they weren't really going to receive 72 virgins, just one 72 year old virgin.

Thanks Bill ~ It shall be to everyone as they choose to believe. No curse needed or intended for those determined to self destruct. They will simply have to return as what they hated... perfect balance, perfect justice. No 'belief system' can change the cosmic laws of cause and effect...except Grace.

    Excellent

    Hi Gennelle:
Ah, what irony in this verse. Even better yet, you make it sound like a curse. One day when all their time ends at last, they will then have a chance to see what they passed. To find out the things the Lord had to say, for they will hear it all again, come judgement day. Excellent verse. Thank you. Bill

Yeah, Dee...I've read the Koran, and I remember nothing about them ever being anything but 'beautiful virgins'.
