My doctor says I can't work,
and that I need surgery,
but that costs money I don't have,
so I asked Social Security
it took them 3 months to answer,
and the answer they gave was no.
They said that I'm not suffering enough
and back to work I should go.
and so I gave them more reports,
and asked them to reconsider.
This time it took them 6 months to reply
and their reply made me bitter.
They admitted my condition was severe
but predicted that I would heal
which contradicts my doctors report
so I asked for an appeal.
It took ten months this time
for them to set a court date,
and then I got the judge from Hell
whom I quickly came to hate.
During all this time Ive had no income,
because I'm not able to work.
I guess I've learned to live on nothing.
Social Security is a bunch of jerks.
I only find comfort in this thought;
that all this will come to pass.
they've gotten their last tax dollar from me
Social Security.. KISS MY ASS

Hmm, well, in terms of whether you followed the rules ending up up with kiss my ass... I'm not sure about that. Obviously you're angry and feel mistreated but a lot of poems about being mistreated by bureaucrats end the same way. I hjope things go better. My sister took years to get a successful social security decision.

You lost your hand, and they said that it would correct itself? what, did they think you were going to regenerate a new one, like a frog? what a bunch of assholes!

Excellent Write!!!
LOL! I love this! It really is true, they take and take from you and when the time comes that you need what was supposed to be set aside just for that, they close the door in your face. I know it's not any solace to your predicament but huge kudos on an excellent write!!!

Bravo!!!!! Very well spoken. So much truth here it's sickening. You work all your life and pay on time each paycheck, they never complain about collecting, but let you get ill and not be able to contribute and well, it's HELL!! Pardon my french
God bless you

this is the 1st poem i have ever read about social security, and you hit the nail on the head in every word you said.
I lost my right hand in an car accident(my fault)and the first letter they sent to me w/a denial said that the condition would correct itself.it took me 3 yrs to finally get it.i went b4 a traveling ss judge and the only report he even took into consideration was not from the drs that had treated me but one from a dr in fla who he had sent my file to.now how screwed up is that?i mean i'm not bitching cause i did finaly get it thru him.and you know after putting me thru 3yrs of relying on relatives and welfare the whole hearing lasted 5 minutes at the most.ok i'll shut up.sorry things like this get me all stemed up.i wish you good luck.and i loved your poem and also good luck in the contest.Jacki D

I loved it! This was fabulous. You painted an unfortunate, but totally accurate picture of a system that is long overdue for an overhaul. I'm glad you were able to find a way to vent as well as spread a little humor. Thanks for sharing!!

You know what, I have to applaud this. It is right on. My uncle had a terrible accident while at work, and SS has determined that he is able to work, even though he can barely brush his teeth without being in horrible pain. Brushing your teeth is what should be a simple task yet it is one he can no longer do without pain, so how can he possibly WORK ? It is beyond me. His docs disagreed with the SS's ruling but, they didn't care what the docs had to say. They gave him a big ugly NO and that was that.
My grandparents have had a lot of trouble with it, and my other deceased grandpa did before he died. He spent several years of his life in the military, fought in WWII but still couldn't receive any help.
Makes me so angry.

hmmmm...interesting view. that really sucks for you. I like the poem though, it made me feel angst for Social Security. Hehe, good job.

excellent
YES,MUCH APPLAUSE DESERVED HERE..Most people who apply for SSI are denied the 1st and sometimes the 2nd time..They may even make you visit several doc's beforehand as well..Sad but the fraud in our country makes the true disabled worker suffer..My thoughts and prayers are with you
Thanks for sharing,or shall I say venting out some true emotions
Keep up the great work

very good
Hehehe yea I know. It's angst.......and it is. Maybe my chuckles are those of irony. All the red tape and bullshit is so typical when dealing with any government agency. Like this. Good luck in the contest.
