On attainment of Nirvana,
And cessation of affliction,
Noble Truths, and Dali Lama,
But I also like the Hindu gods,
Yes Vishnu is for me,
And Ganesha with his head shaped like
An elephant's would be.
However, I'm quite taken with
Muhammad's chosen line,
The Quaran is rather splendid,
I find Allah mighty fine,
But Jesus Christ is also nice,
He blesses from above me,
The Gospels and Paul's new-found Church,
Are all, quite frankly, lovely!
And do I need to tell you
Of my love of Jewish scripture?
When you hear that Hebrew poetry
The message really hits y'u!
What I'm saying is, that pigeon-holed
I truely cannot be.
You can classify me as myself,
'Cause I believe in me.

AH! This is splendid, the ending says it all and I feel exactly the same. There is so much good in all the worlds religions which is why I also choose not to adhere to any one in particular. As far as I’m concerned, there is only one God and all those that look for him will find him, not in religion but inside themselves. Thanks for entering such an insightful poem in my contest. Choosing a winner will be almost as hard as trying to choose a religion!
Good luck!

You have so eloquently summed up the absolute confusion that I know I feel right along side you. It makes it really hard to believe that all of these faiths are truly separate. Thank you for sharing this piece and good luck with your studies!

Wonderful take on the confusion of religeon. It all means the same thing, stated slightly different: "Lift up your eyes unto the hills, whence cometh (maybe) his help." _Psalms, 121

Sunni is a Hindu division isn't it?! And, no, i didn't think that was why you wrote it! Altho you are very bright! ('bright'...get it...sunni!?
)
love you wally boy,

I've always found religion weird,
And in truth a little funny,
But reading this I felt quite cheered,
And then I felt quite sunny!!!
Intelligence, wit, sarcasm, looks...
I have it all...
Oh, and so do you...

Congratulations Bec, four years at Uni and you actually learned something important LOL!
I think this is brilliant. Reflects my thinking exactly.
GREAT!

good one
If more people embraced all religions like this what a great world we would be in. And by the way, if you don't believe in yourself it's pointless believing in anything else.

A great message! A lot of people get hung up on being identified with a particular set of beliefs, and far too much energy is wasted arguing amongst each other about what those beliefs ought to be. Some of those sets of beliefs may set themselves as ultimately right, leaving the others as lesser choices... but even then, such followers can still accept and love others. (hmmm... hope that didn't get too confusing...). Thanks for making your important point!

great
this is a great poem!I dont belive in any religion though.Id much rather live by my rules.
anyway, great job hope to read more from you!

a toast to freewill
every soul has to be responsible for self.that's where freewill comes in.you have given a quite pervasive view of yours and you did it so gracefully.you show a lot of class the way you penned this.it had no put down in it.it is who you are and you stated that well.to each his own, even religiously. -
Are you sure it's Ganesha, apart from that I liked it, it just didn't sound right, that part. I't a good write, well structured, clearly written. Well done.
-
Is this your list poem
I think it would qualify.

Top banana!
I love this,it's absolutely brilliant. What an incredibly difficult task to include all those religions and still make it a decent poem. I love poems which rhyme in places and not others. Great piece of work. I'm intrigued as to what the upset was about!! Do tell (you can IM if you like!) I'm always getting into trouble for dissing hypocrites. -
Religion is for people who are afraid of winding up in Hell; spirituality is for people who have already been there.
-
Yea!! I love the flourescent snot!! Do you have a cold?! I've never SEEN snot so green!!
Thank you very much miss jadey! You're too kind!

pmsl well you're out of the box now so I guess I'll have to snot all over you
Hurrah for snot.

This is so reflective of the cultural shift in religious views. I read the other day of a person who said they were a Christian who believed in reincarnation. Some philosophers say that the psychological nature of Christianity makes it the only religion that man would not create. I for one would never "pick" a religion for what it offered, nor would I be foolish enough to believe in myself. Anyway, my comment is likely to provoke Silica into some sarcastic poke. So I'll just sit here and take it.
I've already been slammed by one atheist today, so I'm in shape.
-
Ta Jadey! But i am extremely offended by your spelling i'm afraid! lol!
You win the award for the first person in history to rhyme 'seventh day adventist'! Hurrah!
Oh, and i have alrealy upset certain people on here with this, although it has nothing to do with religion! Are you intrigued!!? he he! I've never been called 'bitch' before!...it's really rather affectionate, don't you think!
I'm sad cuz i don't have your green snot now!

och, aye, and stand tall, indeed i ove aspects of evera religion, but i lay claim to none, because i belong strictly to myself. i 'ave my own religion of sorts, a macrame of ideals and such, jumbled together... i am wi' ye on they are all lovely, but also, they do al get carried away a wee bit. so, a bit from each... and balance above all... be proud to belong nowhere but yourself...
arden -
heh this would be extra specially clever if you had have made it a parody of losing my religion....
or DID you?
lol
You're gonna piss off some of the godbods on here, though unrightfully so, they'll just start the MY GOD IS BETTER THAN YOUR GOD slanging matches and it'll all go pear shaped.
Though I love jehovah even more
than i love my dentist
i think my true love really lays
with seventh day adventists
Yaweh and yashua
are just a tidbit funky
though then again rastafari is
A trifle bit more spunky
I can't choose a religion
So I guess I'll have em all
With all the gods upon my side
This universe I'll rule!
Muahaha, muaha... sorry if i offended anyone with my spelling
if not my referal to the gods as 'spunky'
If you'd have waited i would have promoted this with my green snot for you, but you beat me to it
Next ones on me

Thanks Gill. Glad you liked it!
-
oops! It should be 'an' yeah! Thanks! (Quaran can be spelled either way, but in all honestly i had to look it up to check!!
)
Thanks for your comment simple-minded. I'm off to edit now!

will get back to this one..
needed to drop by.. liked what I saw..

"shaped like
And elephant's" ought to be an, what with all the prejudice and aggresion at the moment, it may be wise to spell Quran right! A lovely conglomeration of the seperate religions, and I particularly liked the end where you offer us the view shared by the majority of us! A wonderful poem! -
wow this is a great write, and dont you think that although the religions so different some would say are so very similar? all guiding points to the same thing?
just my opinion, a great poem with great flow,
well done

A profound way of thinking. I don't necessarily agree with this. But I think alot of people fall into this category. They are searching but really don't know what they are searching for. Most of the time they don't want to give up the worldly life around them in order to belong. Melody

Excellent! Couldn't say it any better! Wonderful! Dari x

Bec awesome write! I love it. I also totally relate. nobody sems to understand me though. I think I also consider nature religion. I love to study religion, but more as a hobby. Right now I am studying Judiasm -fascinating!
Great work

I really liked what you are portraying in this poem. A very open minded point of view, which i too sort of would hope to embody. whatever path anyone takes it will be the right one for them and will lead them to where they want to go. very thought provoking and beautiful.
-
I really like this poem, and the language is certainly impressive. I've read a lot of religious poem, and what I like about this one is that it takes a different view - it doesn't take itself to seriously, but doesnt offend anyone. Nice ending too!!
good write
