Relief

You keep me warm,
Covering my heart;
My pulse slows;
I heave a sigh,
No longer alone.

I hear your heart beat,
Feel you breathe,
And inhale
The fragrance
Of family.

Our fingers twine;
Your head rests
On my shoulder;
Soft hair
Blurs my vision.

For once,
Nothing is wrong;
I am refreshed.

"Give us this day
Our daily bread."

Author notes

The last two lines are from Matthew 6:11. Martin Luther explains in his Small Catechism that "bread" means all of the things which we need in this life.

    Its very simple, which I think is typical of your style. Perhaps a sprinkle of something unique would make it pop more? Other than that, I really connect to what you're saying here, good job!

      Thank you! Yes, in general my style is simple. (I tried to uprate your comment--but this computer is being stubborn--I'll try again later.)

  • I like how you think. But I think it needs more details. But good job anyways.

      Thank you! I thought of more details, but decided to leave them out--I think a poem is more successful if it leaves some things to the imagination of the reader.
