Her Eyes

Shock coarsed through my body, the moment that I heard
For hours on the car ride home, I didn't say a word
I called her that night, as soon as I got home
I could feel her sorrow and grief, even through the phone
I stuttered my condolances and whispered sympathy
Her voice began to quiver as she uttered "Thanks Teatea"
The next day at the funeral I looked into her eyes
Where once has been radiant happiness, now were sad, gray skies
The decision now came, it was my turn to decide
Should I forgive her for the things she did? I felt a pain inside
For years she'd made me cry from what she'd said and done
I knew if I forgave her, the task would be a difficult one
But right now she needed me, more then she ever would
His words came screaming out at me,but, forgive her? I knew I should
He forgave me and spilled His blood to cover my wretched past
I knew it was I who, the first nail in His hands, had cast
As tears began to cloud her eyes, I grabbed her in a hug
It was in that moment that I forgave her, and so helped spread His love
The pain has still remained, and I know it always will
But whenever I feel angry at her, I see the three crosses on the hill
I think of His forgiveness and how He had only love to give
He'd forgiven me without hesitation and allowed me to live
What I did to Him was so much worse then anything she ever said
So, I'll continue to push the painful thoughts right out of my head
And though I called her my "best friend" and took the painful blows
I have a true best friend named Jesus, and daily His love he shows

    Faithfully forgiving

Good poem. True faith I see in you. I know for a fact He does too.

    Great!!!!

This is true and hard to do. Just recently I talked to a person who I had almost hated I say almost because try never to hate. I gave her another shot and forgave her, and ofcourse she made me mad again. I've forgiven her yet again and I keep hanging on with the thought in my head of W.W.J.D.

    This poem rocks!!!

I think it's great that you show how we need to actually DO something about the great gift that jesus has given us. So often it seems like people only focus on how Jesus' sacrifice makes them FEEL, and they don't get that they are supposed to join him in living as God intended and make sacrifices to further his love in the world, as you showed in forgiving your friend, and setting aside the pain you had and being there for her, even though she didn't deserve it. This is a great poemto demonstrate all that, and I never would have expected that underlying theme from the title, which is a good surprise.
