The pain, the tears. I can't explain
The erasing of a family name
And all because of one's mistake
To live and do, out of hate
The sadness in a mother's heart
Several lives are torn apart
Grief, pain, loss
And why, why did this happen?
Because of one's mistake
To live and do out of hate
And hopefully, some who perished
Went to live with the Lord they cherished
Author notes
I wrote this after the shooting at Columbine Highschool in 1999. I was young and had a friend who lost her brother so this was a way to cope.

This was a beautiful poem, and I'm so glad you wrote it. The shootings at Columbine were so hard to comprehend for me, I don't know how anyone could do something like that. This poem just rings out the sadness, and yet the beauty of what happened to many of the deceased after the event. Thank you so much for sharing this, it's wonderful!
I also wanted to thank you very much for your kind words and your nice comments, as well as the applause! They are so appreciated. Thank you!!! :-)
Take care, and God bless you!

this also is wonderful. your rhyming and flow are so good. i live in colorado so i especially like this poem as i saw this first hand and what it did to the kids here. the fear and trauma. your poem captured it well because it really was such a hateful thing. instead of blame and judgement i see sadness, beauty and empathy in your poem. keep writing you have tons of talent.

Very moving poem!!!
Wow! Once in a while, I come across someone who was personally affected by this event, or a similar one. It is really a tragedy that some people give up so young in life and decide to take it out on others. I know that God often uses these dark events to wake people up and get them to take things more seriously and to come to know him, and I am sure that some of those people did go on to be with Christ. Anyway, it's important to look at things like this from a spiritual perspective, like you do, instead of just from an earthly one. Thanks for sharing this.
