A Song For Mother ( In Pataliyah's loss)

O’ , but for Mother-

there’ll be golden tassels
streamed from the angels' capes,
a silkened reed to each fetal yield of miming clay;

yet,still and near-

rosewater blessed her porcelain throat,
wet eyes see carefully
thumb-sculptured smiles
in earthly forms;

With child, a little one
first a brother;
one, two and then~
another.The chorus changed,
a girl within a genus claim
whose pen adores
her Mother's name.

She will be seen and heard-

do you hear?

like dulcimer at eventides,
in sunrise sets
her love abides.

A chant that lingers every day

Closer now-and yet
Away.

Author notes

Although you can relate this to any Mother, and I hope you do, this was inspired and dedicated to Pataliyah, one of AllPoetry's most impressive poetesses who recently gave up her mother to the Lord.
"I'm sorry, darlin-- this is for you!"

    This was a very heartfelt and well written poem. Pataliyah is very lucky to have a friend like you that will pen such a lovely tribute when they are going through rough time.

    Cookie, sis: I like the poem. Abstract, but a message of the maternal molding of children shines through. Plathian in concise phrase usage, which is not a bad style at all. Good job.

    our precious Mom rings still within our hearts of the everyday
    she she presented us with that still lingers on...
    what a beautiful picture you portray for one that has lost
    their Mom...

    Cookie - it's so lovely
    One never really knows what to say at a time of loss and grief, if I could pen a tribute such as this I'd be content and feel that I had made a worthwhile contribution to a friend.

    Very sad but loving tribute to your friends mother. I lost my father 25 years ago. I understand the pain. Your choice of words compliment this woman so graciously. Great work!

    Very beautiful language used throughout. Sorry, beautiful seems too subjective--very aesthetically motivated...very poetic- many phrases left unfinished, or merely put into a very concise phraseology...I like the seeming simplicity which is subversively very complex.

    For some reason this reminded me of the Patty Griffin song "Mary". I recently lost my mother to cancer and this poem filled me with a very warm, comforting feeling that I haven't felt in a LONG time. So thank you for sharing this.

    Your choice of words were so amazingly well placed and natural without becoming sappy or cliche. Nice.
