Winnie and Betty (Non-Entry for this Contest)

Missing image
by ~Gregg Rowe~

When I was child
I slept with Winnie
His furry little bear body
Kept me warm under my baby blanket
Then when I grew
The two feet on the measurement scale
Connected to the door jam
I was enveloped in
Winnie sheets and blankets
Floppy slippers that sloshed
On a wooden floor
Sweeping my dust bunnies under my bed
I wore the Winnie pajamas
With a flap in the back
After graduating from cotton scented diapers
A collection of Winnie the Pooh
Piggy banks and teddy bears
Lunch box and animal crackers
And my bubble blower

Now I am older
Dream of Betty
With a full bosom
Black jet hair and red lips
That could envelope me
Key chains and cartoon films
White shirt with Betty
Sewn on a pocket close to my heart
Dream of her lying
Next to me keeping
My body warm

Today in my
Middle-class suburbia home
I have a room reserved
Just for Winnie the Pooh

In my dreams
I have a room reserved
Just for Betty Boop

Author notes

6) A story about furry animals...lol...like Care Bears, Winnie the Pooh sort of stuff...ok...

Thank you LadyWiccae for making this background for me! Love it, fits the pic, especially as Winnie disappears when you are scrolling down and the image of Betty Boop stays with the reader.

These were my two favorite characters as I grew up and reached maturity...wait did someone say I was mature...nope, because I still have fun with them at the age of 44 with my nephews and nieces.

Kayla: I have the tape with them all. She was my Maryiyn Monroe fantasy when I was a testosterone male growing up. Guess I couldn't find one in real life to satisfy me. Oops, this is suppose to be a family page! Gregg

This is really nice. Lol, I still love Winnie to be honest.. I dunno why, I didn't like him much as a child, but whenever I'm up early and Winnie the Pooh is on, I start singing along with the song and I just have to watch it! I don't like the whole "Pooh in the Book" thing though.. if you even know what that is, hehe. But eh, great poem! I also love Betty Boop cartoons.. I wish I could find the tape that had a lot of them on it. Ah well, good luck in the contest!

Whatta walk down memory lane! I had a stuffed pooh when I was a kid, till the dog got ahold of him and chewed off his nose and had his shirt for dessert. Mom sewed a different nose on him, and I put him in a nightgown that he wears to this day--on my dresser. Makes me remember what it was like when comfort was so easy--just give Pooh a squeeze, and suddenly everything was always gonna work out just fine. Anyway, I really like this.

Okay I got it. You can only use that when you are speaking in past tense. the grasshopper is learning

True, the narrator in the first stanza is a little boy speaking in the past tense and the '-ing' in the second stanza is future, when I speak of use of '-ing' ending, those are in the Haikus where I am most sticky, in other poems I have to see what tense the sentence is written preceding and proceeding it; and the '-ed' endings is a poem written in the past tense that would sound better in the present...in this poem I have to speak in the past.

I just notice something with your poem after reading over it a second time. You used -ed and -ing.

This was cute. I slept with Alf when I was little. The cutest little alien from Melmac. I still sleep with him probably always will. I think when I die. I will request that they put him in there with me to keep me company and be my guide in the afterlife. Awesome write.

Oh, this is really cute, Gregg! I could see you as a little one surrounded by Winnie and friends and toddling around your room in your Winnie jammies. LOL! Of course, then you got older and realized Betty had more appeal. LOL! Typical of us all. Now, I've got to hit my Unicorn bed... I just realized it is after 11pm and I've an early morning. LOL!

    Love and hugs, BonnieQ

This was a cute write, Gregg It just made me smile from ear to ear. I am in the process of making a pretty large winnie and tigger wall deco. out of plastic canvas. Though.. I'm not sure why, as my son no longer is into Winnie. It's cute, though I love the way you write, the way your poems are so smooth, just like chocolate on my tongue. I really enjoy reading every word you pen... though I've not read all of your writes, I feel I have the time to catch up It's good to see you here, hope you are feeling well? Keep writing, hun..
