my brother you are,
but a healed scar,
and an endless moment’s tear.
A simple picture of that smile
evades our last sorrow,
but will that last until the morrow,
or will it, too, be in denial.
We wake and wail for our days,
and you flew without wings
continuing with what the day brings,
like emission from the sun’s rays.
Forever far and near, my brother you are,
but a lasting wave on our hearts’ radar.
Author notes
I have to say this is a great Audioslave song, and it has been one of my favorites of theirs as well. I wrote this in memory of my brother, Michael, who passed away on November 11, 2009. I feel as if this is another way to represent a personal meaning of the song because my family and I have definitely "broken down in the shape of things to come", but we're "soldiering" through this together. We all wonder what is in store for ourselves after this loss, but I know we're a strong family and together we can pull through whatever shape life constructs for us. Thank you for reading
