Well, hello Chasing! I suppose it could be the classic 'love at first sight' too. This was a much more profound encounter than that though.

    Yep, Cohen's haiku:

    Silence

    and a deeper silence

    when the crickets

    hesitate

makes me think of first love - to be honest i was expecting a 5 7 5 but it was nice to not find that, i remeber a cohen haiku - vaguely about crickets, where it wasn't the traditional.i think from the spice box. first love eh, that glance could be the beginning of the rest of our smiling life. or not -
    depending on how we view.

    You’re the flame
    Who inscribed one covenant
    With the heavens up above
    In your faithfulness’
Within your wings of angelic touch
In a world surging in seas weeping, retouch
Recall the candle warm merging with the fame
In the Lords Holy Love, we all stand the same
As one flame one forever flame

Oh no, not at all, M , I didn't mean to imply you were 'missing the point" at all! I'm sorry if I gave that impression. On the contrary, I was impressed that it reminded you of the reference you provided. It always amazes me when I find references to something I experienced. It confirms and validates my understanding of things almost impossible to translate. Thank you for bringing that information to me, I am truly grateful for your interest and well-read scholarship.
    Love,

    Wonderful

I'm sorry that I seem to be missing the point. I'm not really, just talking around it because it is ineffable. I agree with Abu Said, and I wish I heard what Jami and you do.
Seeking is a gift from God; when you seek, he has found you.

As another related reference, I found this quote a few months ago in a collection of Sufi and other mystic's writings.

"Spiritual need is a living and luminous fire placed by God in the breasts of His servants that their 'self' (nafs, or ego) may be burned; and when it has been burned this fire becomes the fire of 'longing' (shawq) which never dies, neither in this world nor in the next." ~ Abu Said ibn Abi-l-Khayr

Also, "When it is possible to hear the Beloved speak Himself, why listen to second-hand reports?" ~ Jami

The Temple within is where He meets us...we need only find the Way.

This is great. My first thought was the Burning bush, but I can also see this as a more personal write. Sitting before a fire and thinking about God. The flames drawing higher as if to say "I hear you my child" OK maybe I am a bit tired, but that is what it says to me...

    Lovely

Reminds me of the Desert Fathers: "Abba, what more can I do in my spiritual practice?" Abba Joseph stretched his hands toward heaven and his fingers became like ten lamps of fire. He said, "If you will, you can become all flame." (From The Wisdom of the Desert Fathers by Benedicta Ward)
