~ Priorities? ~

Our little town Boort, relies on the lake

The amount of water will make or break

Drying up rapidly day after day

What now, will attract the tourists to stay?

What's that you say?...we have endangered frogs?

Out the road at Yando...found under logs

There's no shortage of water out that way

Allocated so the frogs will not stray

What next?...a toll way to charge all to see?

Or will tourists be banned and you and me?

How could this be allowed to go ahead?

Will the frogs bring the crowds, when the town's dead?

Author notes

I have written about the plight of our little town on a few occassions and how important having water in our lake is for the tourists to come and ski in the holiday period. The tourists are what keeps our little town alive.
Just last week 1100 megs of water was allocated to another area just out the road a bit, because "supposedly" an endangered species of frog has been found. There are a lot of angry business people in our town because of this.

Please tell me what you think

    Nice one

I'm not so sure your poem will make an impact on those who rule your corner of the world. But it certainly highlights the problem on here.
    More power to you keyboard.
    Sincerely, Kob.

    I liked it

I liked the verse and the fact that someone is speaking up but, frogs are important to, where else would we get our prince charmings from. All brevity aside, nature needs frogs and your town need tourists to. They can live togther if both are respected. lets take care of both. Frogs keep the flies and Mosqitoes down too.

      Thank you...

I totally agree that there is a need for both the frogs and the tourists. My partner and I went for a drive last weekend to have a look at where the water has been allocated.
People who live on farms close to the swamp, are saying that there is a mosquitoes plague. Because it isn't a flowing waterway, the water is going stagnant...ideal for breeding mozzies

What about the extinction of the "Tourist" an elusive and somewhat skiddish breed of human that your town needs to thrive??? as for the frogs... well I don't wish them dry ponds but then again ever since my sister used to terrorized me with them when we were little I've never become a frog fan... so I say people over frogs. Julie I wish I could send you clouds full of rain I really do!!! I know this is a very upsetting and trying situation with no obvious solution, well except tons of rain. I'm no Native Indian, but I"ll do a rain dance by the light of the moon tonight for you, it has to be at night so no one will see me

as for your poem... you've penned it so well maybe you should send it to a local paper and see if they'll publish it??? you're voice needs to be heard!!!

    luv ya

    doc.

Thanks for taking the time to read comment and applaude doc As for the rain dance...let me know when you are heading outside to do your jig and I'll rush outside, so as we'll be doin' it in unison (did I spell that right?...) oh...hang on...that means I'd be doin' mine in broad daylight NO...WAIT...most already think I've lost my marbles anyhoo so I'll go and dust off my rain making gear shall I ??

Ahh Julie this is a real problem and I am a fence sitter when it comes to these issues. I don't want to see a town die and people goout of business. Nor do I want an animal species to become extinct. There most definately should be water allocated to your town. With the rains we've had there must be water that can be diverted to Boort.
I sure hope something happens to solve this.
