Letter to a friend

Dear Dave;

    I write this with some trepidation, as it may result in the end of our friendship.  But, here goes anyway.  I've missed you since you went to prison last February.  But the only reason you are in there is through your own foolishness.  You have to admit, repeatedly violating the sex offender's registry rules is not a wise choice, especially when it is your second offense.  You face fines and restrictions when you get out next January.  So I am hoping and praying you finally stop the foolishness and clean up your act, once and for all.

    You must stop driving through counties, trying to rack up meaningless miles.  The law says you have to notify authorities before leaving your home county.  Please do so, from now on.  This is your third time in a lockup, and your longest stretch yet.  The next time you will be there for five years.  I know you probably won't change your behavior, but I beg you to at least try.

    For if it happens again, that is it.  No more letters, no more sympathy from me.  If you call I will not answer, I will not write, and the key to your front door will be in your mailbox.

    This is your last chance, old friend.  I hope for both of our sakes that you will get some sense in your head, and truly stop the self-destructive behaviors once and for all.
Something to think about in your last months of incarceration.

    Hang in there, friend.  I hope we can remain so.  Best hopes and warm regards,  - Mike
