At Last, a Day of Indian Summer

scent of rain beguiles
Indian summer reprieve
warmth forestalls winter

droplets splatter glass
blur seasonal transition
summer lovers smile

rain in crystal drop
shivers spirit from poets
snow melts on demand

Author notes

From frosted October,
mid-November bestowed
the first day of "warm"
Indian Summer rain!

I love your art against the dark background!
....it looks like a view out a window.
Great use of colors to complement the words
the warm hues of indian summer,
    the chill of winter,
and then the thaw of spring, rinsing it all away!

Reminds you of Underground home glow, right?

I cling to the black when I can,
for I can edge the graphics with
black so they appear to loom
out of the background, soft edges.

      Thanks for looking in, Jersey.

      Thank you, Mercedes!

      At the point this piece
      was written it had seemed
      we were being fast-forwarded
      right from Summmer to Winter,
      as often happens here, but
      then, finally, a taste of
      Indian Summer!!!

      I was quite cpatured by
      your piece, "Burning Dreams."

We had a week of Indian Summer here in Ohio. (All last week) Now, it is a bit cold and rainy, still an Autumn feel to the season though. Not winter here yet, thank God. I am not a fan of the cold. Brrrr...

I do however, love Indian Summer days, and your words make me cherish that time even more. Your visual art mixed with such visual words always enthralls me. Beautiful!

I wish you the best in the contest.

    Much Love ♥

      followed by another of comfortable
temps! Almost too good to beleive!

      Thank you, so much.

You do show us in words and images the feeling of "endings" within the natural cycle that brings us round again to the beginnings. Well done. -The Manatee

This is a beautiful dedication to the reluctant season...

Down south, we've had no "Indian givings" of winter. It has remained suspiciously warm despite the whole- not summer anymore thing. Your art has merged to experience; transcending beyond images and words. I like the entire opening stanza best. Great read.

I'm late to the Indian Summer party. How did I miss this? Warming words and images of the artist's pen and brush will continue to keep us all nice and toasty.

I especially love your middle "ku" in the chain. This piece is the complete package.

Nice and warm here but not technically Indian Summer for us since we haven't had a killing frost yet. Most likely will be some time this week according to the Farmer's Almanac.

Some areas along the shore here were under water from the Noreaster. I'm sure there was quite a bit of beach erosion too. They just finished a beach replenishment project a few years ago and these storms take quite a bite out of the ever shrinking shore.

      I was paying attention
      to what the storms were
      doing in the Jersey area.
      Didn't sound good.

      The "party" only started
      mid to late Sunday morn.
      Started earlier, but the
      scanning and playing in
      bucket always takes me
      a while.

      Semed fitting to celebrate
      the mildness that we thought
      had just passed us by...

      Re the middle stanza---
      first image that popped
in my mind was the blurry
      view through the glass,
      light winds driving the
      droplets against the pane.

      Thanks, pix.

Due to be in the 60's here today. It's nice to have a window or two open for a while during the day.

Sweeping rain from the Noreaster blurred window panes here so the image was fresh in my mind though your words brought thoughts to mind of the transition time, that which is in between is always fascinating.

          The in-betweens---Spring, Summer and Fall
enjoy the clingers, those of us who don't
want their seasonal weather to leave, but
poor Winter, so dejected because few want
          him to stay around!!

but cling to moderate days before the
really low temps arrive to stay for
      the winter!

My first thought about your presentation was the way the first drawing opened slowly and as the sun started smiling at me, I too, smiled at the melting storm! Your little lines are lovely and what they share are revealing
with good imagery. You're a true artist! jy

      Rather a gentle merging
      or morphing, the sun welcoming
      than hiding behind the clouds
      as rain drops freshen the
      still-green grass!!

Loving your study of the images
      smiling at you---and your return
      smile!!!

Nice to have a gentle rain,
      warm by our standatds
      for it is not crystalizing
      to faceted snowflakes!

      Nice to see you, joy
and to read your summy reponse!

then a bit of cold and Indian summer peeks its head up and we notice and are so grateful.

    65 degrees yesterday

      Ah, Kathy, we so appreciate
      that bit of starting over,
      the reprieve-- when the temps
      spoil us again!

      My autumn display this year
      came about by bringing some
      of the patio containers to
the front porch. So, by grace
      of covering in October frost,
      I still have hardy citrine,
      rosemary, chives---as well
      as mums happily growing in
      their containers!

      Thank you, dear Kathy!

You and us both. Ours was the remnants of that hurricane that was in the gulf of Mexico. Lots of rain but it's gone now and temps will hit 50 today, so not bad for mid-November. Could use some sun though.

    droplets splatter glass
    blur seasonal transition

i like that. It has a dual meaning. It literally obscure and it also might tend to make us think the transition isn't happening.

    rain in crystal drop
    shivers spirit from poets

What do poets know? They always think in extremes anyway.

    This was quite good MC!

At first I had a "Winter Haters" temp title,
and you in mind! But it seemed too extreme
and not in keepimg with the contest intent!

The rain held off untill my buddy raked AGAIN
and cleared the leaves from the gutters. I am
      so blessed!!!!

You know how I appreciate your close read.
Yes, I rather liked the transitional blur line,
also! Extremes? Of course, so much to express
      in just a few lines.

Yextreme-assee! Seems to fit the "shocking tales"
      and the wells!!!!!

I was in fatiguey mode for a couple days, so
just poking my head out with the haiku chain...

      Thank you, Yem!
