Sitting At The Window

Sitting on the windowsill and looking out at the world outside
People walking on the sidewalk going both directions
Wondering where they are going and what are they thinking
You can see happy expressions and some faces with sadness

One little kid is crying like he doesn't want to go to wherever
Another is laughing and holding a red helium balloon
What's on their little minds as they are led along
I can't hear any voices because the glass blocks their sound

I only know what I am going through and wondering if they are too
My young mind can only comprehend what these four walls have confined
Once again I look outside but beyond the sidewalk to the other side
There I see the cars traveling fast to destinations unknown
Do they have family to go to or work that has such importance

Each day I sit by this window with a glimpse of the world
It tells me a different story each time I look outside
Some time I sit and day dream a little and think  someday
Maybe my life will be like their's with a place to go

Who will I be and maybe I will have my own family
Will I be  looking at each and every window believing someones there
Thinking the same things I am now and wondering where I am going
One day I will be part of this world that I see just beyond the glass

What will my expression be and will someone be able to read my mind?
Could I be walking on the sidewalk or driving in a car?
Would I be at one of the big buildings I can see in the distance?
Its nice to think of all the possibilities and dream

But for now I will sit and look out the window at the world outside
Wondering where people are going and what they are thinking
Wondering if I will leave this city or be here when grow up
For at this place and time I will sit at the window, wondering
