Will you love me

Missing image

Will you love me
through the good times and bad
and those times when sad

Will you hold me
when illness grips my breath
and Cancer holds tight my chest

Will you love me
when angry and lost
and those times when I'm tossed

Will you hold me
as I return
to nightmares so earned

Will you love me
through nights so shell-shocked
our love may be blocked

Will you hold me
as my spirit flies
into blackened memory skies

Will you love me
when hatred burns
and my soul churns and spurns
Will you hold me
when fear grips my mind
causing tremors so confined

Will you love me?
Will you hold me?

When I'm lost....!

Author notes

The dying doesn't end when the battlefield is only in his mind. They called it the "Dear John" letter in World War II, and "Jody" in Vietnam. Military marching chants tout the name. Warriors bring it home as close fitting as thier uniforms. "Will you love me?" They ask, without words.....

Cancer caused by Agent Orange is causing the death of dozens of soldiers from Vietnam each month. Time catches up with those who survived in a horrible way.

"Dear John & Jody": Goodby letters received from wives and girl friends. The Military has a chant:

You had a good home but you left / You're right
You had a good home but you left / You're right
Jody was there when you left / You're right
Your baby was there when you left / You're right

This one made me cry. My heart goes out to all of the soldiers out there who have suffered form the same thoughts, wondering if their love is true. Also to all of the women who have remained faithful and loving to their husbands and boyfriends.

    What a wonderfully heartbreaking write.

    Kudos

    another heart felt

Poem and questions so worthy of an answer,I also read the notes and I often heard my family talk of their chants, and what an eerie feeling it was to hear, then to understand the emotions in any soldier or person thinking of the lasting effects on them..
thank you for joining in and good luck

Lovely, I love this poem. It's so heartfelt and really makes you reflect on how you yourself feel about your significant other. My best friend has a husband serving overseas right now and I can completely feel them in this poem. Great work!

    Wow!

This poem was very moving! I love how the use of such simple words can really convey such strong emotions! Were you or are you in the military? The tone of this poem could only have been written by someone who has experienced that. Thank you for this glimpse into the world of a tattered soldier! Without the men and women who sacrifice all else to fight for our country, we wouldn't have the freedom that we do have! Great job and I hope to read more of your work in the future!
