Will you love me
through the good times and bad
and those times when sad
Will you hold me
when illness grips my breath
and Cancer holds tight my chest
Will you love me
when angry and lost
and those times when I'm tossed
Will you hold me
as I return
to nightmares so earned
Will you love me
through nights so shell-shocked
our love may be blocked
Will you hold me
as my spirit flies
into blackened memory skies
Will you love me
when hatred burns
and my soul churns and spurns
Will you hold me
when fear grips my mind
causing tremors so confined
Will you love me?
Will you hold me?
When I'm lost....!
Author notes
The dying doesn't end when the battlefield is only in his mind. They called it the "Dear John" letter in World War II, and "Jody" in Vietnam. Military marching chants tout the name. Warriors bring it home as close fitting as thier uniforms. "Will you love me?" They ask, without words.....
Cancer caused by Agent Orange is causing the death of dozens of soldiers from Vietnam each month. Time catches up with those who survived in a horrible way.
"Dear John & Jody": Goodby letters received from wives and girl friends. The Military has a chant:
You had a good home but you left / You're right
You had a good home but you left / You're right
Jody was there when you left / You're right
Your baby was there when you left / You're right
