The leaves are falling and the chill,
it runs deep and I never know
where you are. Seems even cold
isn't enough to bring you home.
I remember when we laughed
and season did not have any holds.
Our love was a constant but that
was before her. And now, the constant
is you are always gone.
I'm not supposed to know but how
can I not feel your love blown away.
Like the warmth of summers past,
I cling to what is left inside me knowing
I will pass this winter alone.

The void that remains when someone is "gone" no matter the reason for their absence is haunting and places us in a hole that is grooved from the grief of loss. You have penned that well here dear poet. I feel your pain, your sense of longing, and that forbidden urge to seek out after the other person. Excellent emotions are written out here.
Much Love & Respect ♥
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU & YOURS

This is beautifully written and extremely sad..
" how can I not feel your love blown away"
I really like this line. So many men sneak around behind their wives back, and think they're none the wiser, but how can a woman not feel, not know, that something was taken away from her?
The last stanza is the best, it really pulls your thoughts together...
"like the warmth of summers past,
I cling to what is left inside me knowing
I will pass this winter alone."
a quiet acceptance of a broken relationship, holding on to dearer moments to pull you through the coldness and emptiness of a long winter.
