The Bleeding Iris

You spent a lot of time with me

hours night and day

You made me believe

you would never go away

I gave you my heart

and you ripped it into shreads

As I choked on all

the endless lies to me you fed

If you'd taken the time to know me

you would have seen it all along

Look into my eyes' core

you'll see nobody's home

If you ever see in a field alone

the single iris that bleeds

perhaps you may have found

what's inside of me

  • This is quite a beautiful poem. I love it. The picture of the red iris accents your work very nicely as well.
