I felt my flame was dying, soon to burn out.
The darkness had engulfed what was ever left of me.
I closed off my mind and awaited the end...
Then I saw your face, and I was reignited.
Never in my time, had I seen perfection...
Then in my arms I held you, and knew it to be true.
Enchanted by your eyes, a vivid glass of blue...
I felt as if I had never smiled, before I had you.
As you peered around with your curious nature...
It knew it was that trait, that we were forever bound.
You may hold my name, but that is far from all...
For my heart, my soul and my love all belong to you.
As you grew, I got pulled so very far away...
But know this to be true, I will always love you.
Gazing at your pictures, it gives me nothing but hope...
A wish for tomorrow, when I hold you in my arms.
Visions of the years, when we can be one again...
Like daddy, like daughter, we can never be apart.
For it is the will of the world, we shall always be one.

it's a beautiful dedication to your daughter. it's a very sweet poem filled with fatherly love and the need to be there and protect the child. we also believe that our children are perfect and in a way they are born perfect. born with a clean slate with no mistakes. they are so lucky and blessed! i'm sure your daughter knows that you will always love her. it's the simple things in life that make things special. this poem might seem so very small, but to be quite honest...this is the most beautiful gift (besides love that is) that you could give to your loving daughter. i hope she knows and understands just how much she means to you and how precious she is to your heart.
thanks for entering this piece in my first contest! good luck!
