For My Grandfather,

It seems to once again come to full cycle...
another life

Once grande and clever
only to become trapped in the misery
of his own thoughts and mind
Body has deteriorated
no strength left even to stand
once vain and egotistic
These qualities are now just fragments
of whom he used to be
and somehow,
this terrible disease that took him away from him
has actually saved his soul
his thinking...
is now
peaceful and simple
the way God always intended
like a child full of innocence
but,
his eyes still have wisdom hidden within
As selfish as it seems to be,
I feel his peace as well
and this truly warms my heart
It shows how God works in mysterious ways
and when he does finally pass,
he will feel the love he given throughout the years...

Papa, you are now in safe hands

This is me letting you go.

Author notes

I write this for my Grandfather who is in the final stages of his life.  He has been coping with Alzheimer's for about 5 years now, and really is no longer even himself. Through this battle though, if one can look on the bright-side of things and see God's work arise, it could be understood that this disease has actually saved his soul from the consistent life long battle of being a victim of bipolar-ism that was never treated. He has been freed from his taunting, complex thoughts and this is absolutely beautiful... a miracle within itself.  With his torment and angst no longer harvesting within him, I can sleep better at night knowing that he is that much closer to becoming his "Whole" again.

Very sweetly penned. Your grandfather is so obviously loved by you. I had a great aunt who suffered from the same ailment...so blessed she was when God finally took her home. Nice write and good luck in this contest. ~gypsy~
