A plastic Easter egg,
purple paint chipped
and flakes falling to the bookshelf.
Pages eighty-one and eighty-two
out of some book called
One Hundred Years of Solitude.
A horseshoe, heavy and rusty
from some sort of draft breed,
dirt crammed beneath the rim.
An unmarked CD
that will not play
or give up any of its secrets.
Broken glass wings
off of models of fairies
riding horseback.
An iTunes gift card
for twenty dollars,
not sure if it's been spent yet or not.
A piece of orange chalk
crumbling into dust
beneath a dehydrated fishtank.
White packing peanuts
swollen and soft
cowered in the shadows.
A candle, teal,
the the scent called "dreamcatcher"
forever unlit.
Author notes
Just a random list of things I've found around my room. I wasn't quite sure how to end it.
A penny for your thoughts....

Very interesting.
This peice is very thought provoking and shows a diffferent way of looking at random items. The way you describe each item is excellent and in every detail helps the reader form their own tale of where the item has been.
The layout of this poem really works and whilst all the items detailed are united by being in the peice as a whole, the verse seperations make each thing described stand out on its own.
I like the way that you have created and expressed the feelings of sentiment attached to each item, whether it seems to be used or unused.
Excellent work.
