Masks

Her mask of deception and lies
of nights and prayers for the dead to rise
Regret and solitude these events brought
and memories of a girl that she forgot

She wears the mask of shame and pride
of her guarded heart too strong to hide
Silence and subservience bought
for the defiled self that continues to rot

This is her mask of breasts and hips
of silence and secrets on closed lips
All the blood and tears that have yet to stop
and of grief and battles too long fought

Where is the mask of freedom and sunrise
and the day when she is able not to lie
The whereabouts of the long missing key
and who is the one to unlock the sleeping me?

What did you think?
