Plea For Unity

all
who can
discern this,
hearken my plea!
rupture the shackles
of enmity and wrath;
let us instead embrace our
diverse backgrounds and qualities,
humankind can thrive only if we
channel acceptance in this changing world.

Author notes

this form is called an etheree. I am not sure how many other users were familiar with it prior to my "Etheree Experiments" contest (run about two years ago now). I used to despise all forms, especially short ones that restricted me, but I have since made the etheree mine and run with it.

the form is a very simple, syllable-dependent style. you have ten lines to work with, the first line starting with a one-syllable word, the second line a word or combination of words equaling two syllables, etc., until you culminate at line ten with ten syllables. they can rhyme, or not, depending on the writer and subject.

we humans still have a long way to go in terms of becoming unified and achieving that very elusive thing called "world peace". before that happens, we have to stop discriminating against each other (be it outright or in an aversive way) and aiming to destroy one another, battling for the top spot on the food chain. we have to realize that all our blood runs red. and, above that, we have to realize that although at times we may feel utterly alone, that we cannot exist alone and that, like it or not, we are dependent on one another and that all have a purpose in this life. we must all think with a clear head and open heart, for then and only then will peace come for all.

    Your Etheree is expertly written and I remember those contests. I was familiar with the form but rarely used it.

    The poem itself is powerful and presses on paper a strong message of hope for all generations, cultures, and persuasions. This too is my plea. I stand with you here little sister. The best to you in the contest.

    Love YOU Always ♥

    I love how versatile the etheree truly can be. This reminds me a lot of the ethnic lit class I'm in now. We've come a long way, but still have a ways to go until things are the way they should be. Great word choices--very poignant. I like it.

    Nice....

    ... message and one I can get behind fully however I fear as long as there is more than on religion on the world then there will always be war and contention. Oh well think I will write my way through the end of the world.
