Stranded On This Here Sidewalk

You left me stranded on this here sidewalk
with nothing but a picture of the back of your car & a simple goodbye.

The gray skies are slowly fading to black
&
I've got nothing other than my stupid pride.

I walk right 'cause that's the only thing I've gotten right in weeks.
I quicken my pace to a full run.
I was running for dawn.
A new day for my new life.
A happy one that includes the people I trust.
Me and only me.

I wonder what its like to finally be in the real world?
Oh wait I'm here,

My feet stop.
I look around and breathe in the air of emptyness.
All that's around me is the dry dessert air and a few cactus's waiting for the daylight.
I was alone on this dessert road.

I heard the news that you were around. I just didn't believe them.
I never cared to listen just 'cause I didn't know you.
I don't know you.

"Hello there, my names Chelsey. Congratulations your the first new person
in my new life."

A smirk was placed on that face of yours
&
that's where it stayed.

I looked behind me
&
The light was breaking threw the black horizon.
I didn't want the night to end
everything good happens at night.

I waved goodbye
and left you stranded on this here sidewalk
with nothing but a picture of the back of me and a simple goodbye,
I was running for the darkness.

But you, followed me
                                  into the dark.

  • I was alone on the dessert road..and this is the most touching scenario of the life when you lose love and stay alone here in the poetry and in the life as well..well said..

I love the last lines especially. The enjambment here definitely adds weight to the words. The "running for the darkness" bit calls Bat for Lashes' "Daniel" to my mind. I like that you end on this mixed note of hope and danger. Quite beautiful.
