Thunder,Love,and Razor Blades

Parallel rainfall clashes
With thunder pounding
On my window pane,
Preventing peace
From entering
My being.
I can't sleep
So I'm wondering
If you're walking the streets
Tonight,
Head bent,
The hood of your jacket
Concealing
A too beautiful face
From predators peering
Round lamp posts and corners.
My heart twists
Painfully
In a knot
When I think
Back to that afternoon.
We said farewell
Under a curtain
Of twilight,
A drapery of pastel
Colors
Hovering
Over our heads.
Raising my hand
To your smooth
Lips,
You whisper,
"Take care."
I hide my tears
And turn towards
The car where
My father
Waits.

But in my shadowy
Bedroom
I let the tears
Stream
Down the same
Cheeks
Your fingertips
So lovingly touched.
And, honey,
It takes a whole lot
Of iron will
To resist the urge
To go running
Into the bathroom
And pull out
My razor blade
Escape.

Without you here
To hold me back,
More often I cry.

Author notes

This is another poem I wrote based on the events in the book Impulse by Ellen Hopkins except that this is what I picture the aftermath to be like for the character Vanessa. enjoy.
