That I still don't understand
In a sleep-drawn memory
You laid a jacket in my hand
Just like you gave your wisdom
To give me a better start
Just like you gave your laughter
A song within my heart
In my dream you told me
That the jacket could make me fly
Just like you once told me,
"You can do anything you decide you want to
If you have the heart to try"
I struggled first in flight
Holding fast to higher things
But in time you taught me
By putting wind beneath my wings
One day I lost my jacket dear
And found I could not fly so high
Sometimes I'd land a soaring leap
But I could not seem to fly
In time, though,
I flew 'round the world
With the magic that you gave me
Remembering how your soft winds
Had lifted at my wings
It was you who taught me
Not to fly
But to see
The highest heights
Above the storm
In the clearest air
To stretch my wings
Pursue my goals
And in-vision myself there
Author notes
One year I had the most amazing teacher. It was hard to imagine a year with out her. The next school year I had a dream that she handed me a green jacket, symbolizing the knowledge she gave me and the laughter and joy she shared. Over the year it increased until it came time to move on. It was then that I had the dream and in my dream, lost the jacket. For a time, without her, I forgot how to fly. But with time I remembered what she taught me and through a detailed journal could recall the good times and remembered how to fly. And I did.
Does it all fit together?
