My Christmas Prayer!

Dear Heavenly Father above us
we pray you’ll rain down your love again
we thank You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
that dwells above, beyond, and within.
It’s this time of the year
we extend a hand to a stranger
and remember the birth of our King
born Away in a Manger.

We prayed for this country
when we came under attack
we now pray for our soldiers
in Afghanistan and Iraq.
With mistletoe overhead
surrounding poinsettias and holly
hope Angels get their wings
whenever a bell rings
that we’ll always be faithful and jolly.

If visited by three spirits
there’s only one we’d want the most
not of the Past or the Future
but the Spirit of the Holy Ghost.
To the miserable misers of this world
who thinks Christmas is a Humbug
if kept closed their small Grinch hearts
their graves they’ve already dug.

We pray for the selfish man
who wants it all for his own
their days will soon grow dark
they’ll find themselves sadly alone.
Whenever we are weary, Lord
You will carry us---I know
the evidence is made clear
one set of footprints left in the snow.

We pray for our deceptive friends
their lies, mistrusts, and gruffing
we owe it all to You, Lord
for without You--we are nothing.
In this bustling world
we’re to busy to pause
You still guide your children
rejection, is not in your Clause.

We pray for good health
no stockings filled with coal
no presents filled with bricks
no tongues stuck to a pole.
We pray for this nation
one nation under God
that many are trying to change
the misguided believes You a fraud.

We pray for the ignorant and proud men
know why their Christmas is blue
for it is still the wise men
who continue to seek out You.
Singing joyful songs unto your name
by believers of every sex
we’ll always keep Christ in Christmas
and never replace it with an X.

We pray for our families
who are far, far away
hoping they don’t get lost
in this world of today.
We hear merry carolers singing
beautiful songs we do adore
but there’s no Joy to the World
to innocent children plagued by war.

We hear bell ringers with their kettles
but we are reluctant to give
why concern ourselves with others
whether they die or they live.
We pray for the homeless
the sick and the dying
outcasts in this so-called humane world
for this inhumane world has stopped trying.

Lord, you are the reason for the season
You’re our Savior who set us free
who was born in a manger
and died at Calvary.
But our hope was not lost
for You paid our cost
You now await in Paradise
when our time is exhaust.

We don’t have to be rich
but rich is what we are
we do better than most
and from the rest--by far.
We have the warmth of our home
tinsel on our Charlie Brown tree
food, gifts---but much more
the companionship of family.

With Jack Frost in the air
and the world filled with strife
we are fortunate enough
we have a Wonderful Life.
We pray that lives will change
for the rich and the poor tramp
and pray that nobody here
gets a gift of a leg lamp.

There are miracles everywhere
there’s one on 34th street
and remember the sincerest gift was offered
the young lad gave with a drumbeat.
Underneath the shinning star of David
was born God’s only begotten Son
and as the lame lad exclaimed:
God Bless Us, Everyone!

So thank you Dear Lord above us
this is my Christmas prayer
but the greatest gift of all
is knowing that you’re always there!

Amen

Author notes

I know this ran somewhat long, and that I jumped one holiday ahead, but once I got started, I couldn't seem to stop. But still, I hope this brings your holiday spirit and joy back. At least it was much better than the first one I wrote, entitled, The First Thansgiving. That one sounded way to dumb.

this was amazing! I'm reading this with a tear in my eye. I should be grateful instead of feeling sorry for myself. this time of year is always hard. I lost my Dad just after Christmas in 1991. I know that was some time ago but the holidays always remind me of him and always seem to make me blue. I know I will find my spirit again and I'm hoping my trip home will do just that. thank you for your ever so beautiful entry!
