All Mine!

Pardon? Of course she's mine!
A little puppy of my own.
Isn't she just divine!
I'm tired of being all alone.

What? Who? The cat?
Oh no, she's got five, I know that.
Promiscuous, of course,
but what can you expect from a cat?

Oh? Really? Looks like a kitten?
No, it's a puppy just like me.
And I swear, it's my mission
to love and protect her, you'll see.

Of course I'm sure! I do not jest,
with paw on heart I say
my puppy will have all the best,
I'll be here for her, come what may.

Author notes

This is inspired not only by the picture prompt but because years ago my Dobermann adopted a tiny kitten, even producing milk to feed her. The kitten was named Puppy.

LOL! Had to check the picture to be sure, but I knew that dog was telling a lie! Or maybe just hallucinating a bit. Even animals need pets, I guess. One of my cat adopts a ball of paper and carries it around for days... very funny, and written so well. Good luck in the contest! Lita

Delightful It is always amazing the nurturing instincts in some animals, and all the more heart warming when those animals are usually sworn enemies

This is a wonderful write and one which I could already sense was going to be/is going to be a winner. I love the idea of the dog adapting the little kitty and speaking of it as its own. Truly delightful and a smile maker for sure. I love the flow and rhythm of this, the way it sounds like she's/he's talking to someone and answering questions with a positive comeback. This does great justice to the picture and says it all. I love it and am bookmarking. I wish you the very best in the contest.
