Winter

One by one, this winter steals from me,
Everything that gives me life,
The smallest leaf to the thickest evergreen,
Splitting, cracking under your might.

I do not know from whence it came-
Or why
It graced me with its deathly touch again,
When all that was is so long since,
And never to again.

The sun has lied to me,
Gone back on her words,
She was never here.

The closest I had ever come,
I never touched but her soft rays,
Never herself, she kept it safe,
Nor gazed upon her one true self,

Eyes averted, you broke my heart,
And winter, though it ends,
Will always come again.
